PROFILE
New Friends
Local nonprofit hires
new community
resource coordinator
Ytephanie Honeycut was recently hired as the community
. resource coordinator for Denton County Friends of the
Family Her main role is to engage the community in
DCFOF’s cause. She also serves as the volunteer liaison and
works year-round to bring in needed items for clients.
WHAT CITY DO YOU LIVE IN AND HOW LONG
HAVE YOU LIVED THERE?
I’ve lived in Denton my whole life, minus one year abroad
living in New Zealand.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.
My mother is a paralegal at a local law firm, but is
also a licensed hypnotherapist, practicing shaman and a
published author. My father is semi retired, but an
( % active musician playing with the local theater
1 and in our home church praise band. He’s
5 also a photographer and creative, who
is has work up at a Steve's Wine Bar in
Denton. My brother is a few years
. younger than me, but is a transfer
A recruiter for UNT, who enjoys
traveling as much as I do.
WHAT INSPIRED
YOU TO WORK
WITH DCFOF?
I have a few friends who are
) DCFOF employees, and they
/ encouraged me to work here.
One of my friends knew this was
« exactly the type of job I wanted
- local, would keep me busy
and active, and gave back to
/ the community, all things I was
searching for.
WHAT ARE YOUR JOB
RESPONSIBILITIES?
The simple answer is that I man-
age and recruit volunteers, help in
the intern search process and attend
events that could potentially bring in
new volunteers.
WHAT IS THE HARDEST
PART OF YOUR JOB?
Right now, the hardest part of my job
is juggling the back to school drive with
my time all while learning the ropes
and making sure all tasks are complete. Soon, once I’ve adjusted, I
see the hardest part of my job as learning to leave at a reasonable
time.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
Knowing I am helping to make a positive impact on our clients
lives.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO YOUR FIELD?
One of my friends suggested that I apply, and I had just watched
a Ted Talk that discussed how women tend to only apply for jobs
that they are 100 percent qualified for, whereas men will apply for
a job that they 60 percent qualified for, so I decided I would apply,
and I am so glad that I did.
IF YOU HIT THE LOTTERY, WHAT’S THE FIRST
THING YOU WOULD DO/BUY?
Depending on the lottery sum, I’d first invest a good portion anc
then I’d buy a plot of land in New Zealand.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO
IN YOUR DOWN TIME?
You can find me either, taking pictures, painting, creating pot-
tery, reading or watching Netflix. Or you can find me at my favorite
local watering hole hanging with my friends.
WHAT HISTORICAL EVENT WOULD YOU
LIKE TO HAVE SEEN OCCUR?
As a history major, I find it hard to choose, however, I would
have liked to have witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall. I was a lit-
tle over a month old when it came down, and last summer I bought
a “piece” of the wall when I visited Germany. So, I have no actual
recognition of the fall.
THREE THINGS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
Visit Canada, travel the U.S. as an adult and move to New Zea-
land in four to five years, hoping all goes to plan.
WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENT
BRINGS YOU THE MOST PRIDE?
Definitely moving to the other side of the world. Living in New
Zealand taught me that I could do anything, and survive anything.
I am proud that I made that leap and traveled for over 15 months.
