Honor Guest At Party
Thursday Evening
Mr. and Mrs. 0. W. Dube enter-
tained Thursday evening honoring
Miss Emma Reisterer on her birth-
day. Red roses and verbenas were
the pretty decorations for the table
at the waffle supper which was en-
joyed by the honoree, Mr. and Mrs.
A. J. Reisterer, Raymond Stern and
the host and hostess.
Other guests joined the party for
the games of bridge which followed
the supper. Mrs. J. L. Curlee won
the high score prize for the ladies.
A. E. Krause won high for the men
and Miss Reisterer was presented a
guest prize. Bridge guests included
the honoree, Mr. and Mrs. A. J.
Reisterer, Mr. and Mrs. J. A.
Schupp of Weslaco, Mr. and Mrs.
J. L. Curlee of Weslaco, Mr. and

Dance Given Wednesday
By Firemen's Auxiliary
Members of the Volunteer Fire-
men’s department and the Women’s
Auxiliary entertained last week with
a Valentine dinner dance in the city
hall. A Mexican dinner was fol-
lowed by dancing. Guests of the
department and auxiliary included
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Murray, Mr. and
Mrs. 0. J. Schaeffer, Mr. and Mrs.
John Polk, Mr. and Mrs. L. F.
Boling, Mrs. Bob Bower, Mrs. A. U.

Is Leader Of Program
. At Study Club Meeting
The life and works of William
Cullen Bryant were studied at the
meeting of the Women’s Study club
held in the high school Monday aft-
ernoon. Mrs. Henry Lauderdale was
program leader and told the story
of the life of the author being
studied. A number of his poems
were read by Mrs. John Rouse and
"Thanatopsis" was read by Mrs.
G. K. Reiss. Practically all of the
members of the club were present
at the Monday meeting.
McAllen Chapter of D. A. R.
To Entertain Officers Of
Barlow Chapter Monday
The McAllen chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolu-
tion will be hostesses at a luncheon
at the Casa de Palmas hotel Monday
at one o’clock at which time the of-
ficers of the Lieutenant Thomas
Barlow chapter have been invited to
be guests. Among the Barlow chap-
ter officers who are planning to at-
tend the luncheon are Mrs. T. L.
Nolin, secretary; Mrs. Fred Hard
Wright, parliamentarian and Mrs.
John L. Bruce, chaplain, all of Mer-
cedes.

Friends Monday Afternoon
Mrs. E. E. Johnson was hostess
to a group of friends who gathered
at her home Monday for an after-
noon of sewing. Guests included
Mrs. A. R. Benge, mother and house
guest of the hostess, Mrs. H. E. Ha-
ger, Mrs. Orlu Ferguson, Mrs. L. M.
Marshall, Mrs. A. C. McDermott,
Mrs. N. P. Barton, Mrs. R. R. Bar-
ton, Mrs. F. E. Bennett and her
house guest, Mrs 0. B. Faner, Mrs.
J. W. Chambers and Mrs. James An-
derson. Dainty refreshments were
served late in the afternoon.

To Worthwhile Club
Mrs. Link Evans was hostess to
the Worthwhile home demonstration
club at a social meeting at her home
Thursday afternoon. Members ans-
wered roll call by giving useful
home hints. Dainty refreshments
were served by the hostess late in
the afternoon.

Circles Meet Tuesday
Afternoon For Study
Circles of the Presbyterian Wom-
en’s auxiliary met for, study ses-
sions Tuesday afternoon. Circle one
met with Mrs. W. W. DeCell as
hostess at her home. Mrs. E. E.
Evans, circle chairman presided at
the meeting and led the devotional
service and Mrs. John Hood gave the
Survey magazine review. Other
members present were Mrs. J. W.
Meredith, Mrs. Harry Goessling and
Mrs. Winnie Howze.
Mrs. L. M. Finley and Mrs. Mar-
garet King were hostesses to the
members of circle two at their home.
Mrs. A. C. Cope led the devotional
service and Mrs. R. M. Winn had
charge of the mission lesson of
Japan. Members attending were
Mrs. Cope, Mrs. Winn, Mrs. Sam
Nettleton, Mrs. C. C. Schwartz, Mrs.
T. L. Nolin, Mrs. Ben Stafford, Mrs.
Carrie M. Stuart and Mrs. M. E.
Shouse.
Circle three met with Mrs. Kath-
erine Chadick as hostess. Mrs. A.
C. Wipke had charge of the Bible
study of the book of Thomas. Oth-
er members present were Mrs. L. D.

Farewell i Party Given
For Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Grimm Monday Evening
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Grimm were
named guests of honor at a delight-
ful surprise farewell party given for
them Monday evening. Mr. and
Mrs. Grimm left early Tuesday
morning for Hanover, Penn., to
make their home. The friends who
gathered for the party Monday
night met at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Curtis Van Syoc and from
there went to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. 0. R. Glasscock with whom
Mr. and Mrs. Grimm were living.
A lovely gift was presented the
honorees from each of the guests,
including Miss Effie May Izzard,
Miss Murl Wann, Miss Jewell Black-
man, Miss Ouida Bailey, Mr. and
Mrs. Curtis Van Syoc, Mr. and Mrs.
Alfred Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Os-
born Webb, Verl Van Syoc, Uliz
Bailey, Maynard Ivey, and Gilbert
Glasscock.

Hostess To Needlecraft
Mrs. E. M. Crockett was hostess
to the Needlecraft club at her home
in Queen City Annex Friday after-
noon. A pleasant social afternoon
spent in needlework and conversa-
tion was concluded by the serving
of delicious refreshments. Mrs.
Grafton Burdette of Harlingen was
a guest of the club and the follow-
ing members were present: Mrs. J.
R. Barry, Mrs. Lee Freeman, Mrs.
A. K. Phillips, Mrs. Alden Wade,
Mrs. H. T. Stotler, Mrs. Margaret

Children Enjoy Hike
And Weiner Roast
A group of children accompanied
by Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Henry en-
joyed a hike and weiner roast on
the resaca Wednesday at noon. Fol-
lowing the hike the party returned
to the Henry home where games
were enjoyed. Mrs. J. C. Shaw took
the children out to the Henry home
and called for them in the afternoon.

Mrs. A. E. Krause entertained
with a dinner bridge party at her
home recently, honoring her hus-
band on his birthday. Hearts and
red roses formed the lovely decora-
tions for the dinner table and the
bridge room. Guests included Mr.

Mrs. A. J. Reisterer, Mr. and Mrs.

Walther League Has
Banquet At Home Of
Miss Emma Reisterer
Members of the Walther League
of the local Immanuel Lutheran
church attended a banquet given for
that organization at the home of one
of the members, Miss Emma Reis-
terer Wednesday night.
The Washington’s birthday theme
was used in the attractive decora-
tions for the tables. A log on a bed
of green leaves and having a hatch-
et caught in the center formed the
central ornament. Tall white tapers
and red flowers and ferns carried
out the red and white color scheme.
Gus Weideranders acted as toast-
master and introduced the following
numbers: playlet, “The Beauty
Palor," with Miss Elsie Ziebarth,
Miss Christine Rickert and Mis Es-
ther Marose as the characters; vo-
cal solo by Miss Helen Drefke; talk
on the life of George Washington
given by Arthur Ohls, and reading
by Miss Dorothy Ohls.

Miss Helma Karle, Miss Beatrice

present at the Valentine dance given
by the A-One club in the American
Legion clubhouse Thursday night.

lovely floral . decorations for the
bridge room in the home of Mrs.
Perry W. Perkins Wednesday when
she entertained the members and
guests of the Coterie Bridge club. In
the games Mrs. J. W. Chambers won
the high score trophy. At the close
of the playing a sweet course was
served. Mrs. Henry Lauderdale
and Mrs. Walden Haynes were
guests of the club and the following
members were present: Mrs. Fred
Brooks, Mrs. J. W. Chambers, Mrs.
Jack Foy George, Mrs. John Hern-
don, Mrs. R. E. Kirkpatrick, Mrs.
H. J. Menton, Mrs. B. M. Sansom,
Mrs. Harold Stuart, Mrs. Art Tol-

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Huggins of
Brownsville are expected in Mer-

Club Meets With Mrs.
James Howze In Weslaco
Mrs. James Howze was hostess to
the Wednesday Contract Bridge club
at her home in Weslaco this week.
Mrs. L. D. Mathews won the high
score prize in the games of the after-
noon following which dainty re-
freshments were served. Those

Circle Baptist Auxiliary
Mrs. Frank Avant was elected
chairman of the Kumjoynus circle
of the Baptist auxiliary at a meet-
ing of that group held at the home
of the Rev. and Mrs. E. V. May
Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Tom Dow-
is was named associate chairman.
Mrs. May had charge of the Bible
study of the book of Romans. Mem-
bers present were Mrs. A. Van
Syoc, Mrs. David, Mrs. F. Colbath,
Mrs. Osborn Webb, Mrs. Ben Jen-
kens, Mrs. John Briscoe, Mrs. J. P.
Nicholson, Mrs. Grant Morrison,
