Miss Melba Bashaw Bride
O. B. Riley on
Miss Melba Bashaw, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Bashaw of Mer-
cedes, and 0. B. Riley, son of Mr.
and Mrs. M. P. Riley, Aberdeen,
Miss., were married Friday evening,
Nov. 11 at 7:30 o’clock at the Mer-
cedes First Christian Church in
an impressive double ring ceremony,
with the paster, the Rev.,George A.
Wheeler, reading the marriage rites.
Mrs. C. F. Archer played the tra-
ditional wedding marches and also
accompanied Mrs. George Graf, Jr.,
who sang "I Walk Beside. You,"
Murray; and “The Lord’s Prayer,”
• Malotte.
The aisle cloth which extended

white mums. The archway was deco-
rated,in plumosa fern, on either side
of which were candelabra. Plumosa
fern and white nylon roping deco-
rated the chancel, and satin ribbons
marked the pews.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a white slipper satin
gown, fashioned on princess lines,
and with sweetheart neckline. Her
finger-tip veil of illusion' was dot-
ted with scattered lace butterflies,
caught to her head with a coronet
of orange blossoms. She carried a
white - Bible, topped with a white
orchid and ribbon streamers dotted
with stephanotis.
Mrs. Tim Hay, sister of the bride,
was matron of honor, and Mrs. Bill
Harp was - bridesmaid. Both wore
gowns of orchid net over orchid taf-
feta, picture hats of orchid, and car-
ried bouquets of vanda orchids.
Tim Hay, brother-in-law of the
groom, was best man to the groom,
and Bill Harp was groomsman. Ush-
ers were Donald McDonald, Richard
Schrank and Calvert Jones.
Following the wedding ceremony,
a reception was held at the Fede-
rated Clubs Center. Receiving the
guests were the bride and groom,
Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Bashaw and the
bride’s attendants.
Baskets and bouquets of white
munis formed arrangements in the
auditorium. The bride’s table, laid
with a white ruffled organdy cloth.
was centered with white mums, ac-
cented by a miniature bride on a
pedestal with orchid maline at the
base. The four-tierred wedding cake,
topped with a miniature bride and
groom, was decorated with sugar-
spun roses. Crystal candelabra held
white tapers. Presiding at the table
during the evening were Mrs. Jack
Rainwater and Mrs. Harold Brewer,
serving the cake, and Mrs. Paul
Pemelton and Mrs. Billy Joe Ryan,
presiding at the crystal punch bowl.
Miss Charlotte Kenell, Victoria, Tex.,
was at the bride’s book. Mr. and Mrs.
J. W. Bashaw, Bay City, were also
present for the wedding and the re-
ception.
The bride is a graduate of the
Mercedes high school. She is em-
ployed at the Mercedes Telephone
Company office. The groom served
several years in the Signal Corps of
the U. S. Navy, overseas. Following
a honeymoon trip to Corpus Christi,
the newlyweds have returned to Mer-
cedes to make their home.
For traveling, the bride wore a
grey gabardine suit, with dark green
accessories. Her corsage was of
vanda orchids. -
The Ferg Hagers Hosts
To Valley Riding Club
Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson Hager
were hosts' on Sunday afternoon for
the meeting of the Valley Riding
Club at their home south of town.
Ralph Morgan of Edinburg, presi-
dent, was in charge of the meeting.
Mrs. Lee V. Stewart of Weslaco, sec-
retary, and who is taking an active
part in the Horse Show at the Mid
Winter Fair at Harlingen, outlined
the Valley entries in this phase of
the fair and also those of the. Valley
Riding Club. The Horse Show, will
be held and also those of the Valley
Riding Club. The Horse Show will
be held Saturday night, November
19, and Sunday afternoon, Novem-
ber 20. Clayton Pritchard of Har-
lingen will be . ringmaster. Mrs.
Stewart, Mrs, Ralph Morgan, Mrs.
Jerry Rubendall, Ferguson Hager
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Bray, Mr. and
• Mrs. Noa Sisk, Dr. and Mrs. R. H.
will also have ring duties.
