Giddings Study Club Holds
First Meeting Of The Year
Yours truly,
Mr. W. H. Tiemann
Comanche, Texas
76442
Route 4, Box 96.
Begun Sept. 1
Colonel Homer Garrison, Jr.,
director of the Texas Department
of Public Safety announced that
the 1967 vehicle inspection period
has begun.
Garrison said that the new in-
spection period began on Septem-
ber 1 and will end on April 15,
1967 as prescribed by the Public
Safety Commission. The in-
spection period is the same as in
previous years.
"This means that between now
and April 15, 1967, each of the
five and one half million Texas
registered vehicles will have to
secure the new green and white
1967 inspection sticker from one
of the 5500 official inspection
stations, " he said.
Garrison pointed out that
Texas inspection stations can be
identified by the official vehicle
inspection station sign displayed
at each station.
Garrison suggested that if mo-
torists have their vehicles in-
spected during the routine visits
to garages for ordinary main-
tenance, the necessity of having
to wait in line at a later date for
an inspection will be eliminated.
In announcing the new inspec-
tion period, the Public Safety
Director pointed out that vehicle
defects contributing to traffic
accidents in Texas during 1965
were the fewest yet experienced
since the inspection program be-
gan in 1951.

"I don't think of it as a
volkswagon...I think of it
as a transistorized
Rolls-Royce."
Dear Sir:
Since I am a native of Giddings,
been away from Giddings for over
40 years with the exception of
four years when I coached there,
been a frequent visitor there over
the years, have been a small con-
tributor to the Lee County Histori-
cal Society in their efforts to
collect items for the museum and
knowing that this organization
needs many items for the museum,
I thought I should make an appeal
to people either to give or lend
items of historical interest to
this organization.
Here in Houston my office is
cluttered with items of no in-
trinsic value but they do afford
people a chance to see old relics,
etc. It is surprising how people
will linger in my office, ask
questions, and leave with a
parting statement: "Man, I
never saw anything like this
before." On our next trip to
Giddings my wife wants to give
the museum an American flag,
about 10 feet by 30 feet, with
only 38 stars on it. Not many
people living today can remem-
ber when we had only 38 states.
Any contributor to the museum
will never know what satisfac-
tion they can get by giving until
they have donated some item to
this project.
