There are 49 boys out for football
this year. Practices started Aug.
ust 25.
The Freshmen have the largest
representation with 20. The Soph-
omores have 8, Juniors 8. and Sen-
iors have 13.
Freshmen boys out include:

STUDENTS HEAR SUPERINTENDENT
AND PRINCIPAL AT FIRST RALLY
Superintendent Slocomb and
Principal Schmidt both gave spir-
iting talks to the followers of the
buffaloes at the first pep rally in
the gym.
Mr. Slocomb stated that the
Schulenburg Jaycees would give a
Sportmanship Award to the School
in this district that shows the best
sportsmanship. This school will
be elected by the football players I the Fight song.
FHA TO GO TO
DALLAS FAIR
The Giddings Chapter of the Fu-
ture Homemakers of America re-
cently voted to attend the Dallas
State Fair on October 4, which
has been declared Youh Day at
the State Fair.
Tere will be approximately 100
FHA members attending the Fair.
They will leave about 4 a. m., on
Saturday morning and return
about 12 j. m.
There will be many interesting
exhibits shown, and for an added
attraction the girls may go either
to the Ice Capades or see the cur-
rent Broadway musical hit, “The

Mr. Schmidt welcomed the new
students and encouraged them to
keep up school spirit at all times.
The cheerleaders led the stud-
ent body and followers of the Buffs
in some inspiring yells. The pep
rally oepned with the band playing
the school song and ending with
Music Man.”
There will also be refreshments
served between the hours of 11 and
2 at no extra cost to the many
youth organizations that will be vi-
siting the State Fair on this spe-
cial Youth Day.
The FHA’ers will also enjoy the
the Midway with its many glorious
rides, such as the ferris wheel and
the huge roller coaster.
The chapter has enjoyed the trip
to the Dallas Fair for many years
and they are planning to have a
most enjoyable trip this year.
It’ll pay you to remember that
the cost of experience has gone up
like everything else.

The Giddings Buffaloes defeated
the Luling Eagles 16-12 Friday
night Sept. 12. on extra points
scored after two long touchdown
runs.
Luling scored first in the open-
ing quarter on a George Bolton to
Lyt Callihan pass that went for 45
yards.
Giddings scored in the second
quarter on a 62-yard run by Ger-
ald Zoch. Alvin Hirsch added 2
points on a run to make the score
8-6 at the half.
The Eagles again scored on a
pass from George Bolton to Jeff
Jones for 17 yards and the second
Eagle touchdown. Luling again
failed in their attempt for the ex-
tra points.
Lulings’ 12-8 lead was wiped out
in the final quarter by Cecil Wal-
ther’s 54-yard sprint. Alvin Hirsch
scored 2 extra points to make the
final score 16-12 to give the Buffs
their first win in the 1958 cam-
paign.

season, the team selected three
boys to represent the Buffs as cap-
tains the following year.
They are Charles Goodson, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Goodson,
Billy Placke, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Placke, and Gerald Zoch, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Zoch.
Charles has lettered one year in
football and is also on the track
team.
Billy has lettered all his three
previous years. He has also let-
tered in baseball and basketball.
Gerald has lettered two previous
