A SUGGESTION TO THE PRESS.
During the coming .lune the grand-
est opportunity which baa ever occur-
red or may again be given in life
will be offered the press of Arkansas
in which to display the grand but as
vet undeveloped resources of our
State. The Press Association in a
body propose visiting the World’s
Fair at Chicago next June.
We think it a m’>st propitious op-
portunity and would respectfully sug-
gest that each newspaper in the state
prepare a special edition for that oc-
casion containing a description of the
country and its resources in its re-
spective locality which would certain-
ly prove to be one of the greatest and
most beneficial advertisements the
state has ever received. Such an ad-
vertisement would have access to the
thousands of homes which have here-
tofore been impossible to reach. With
the advantages of our state thus por-
trayed to thousands of people who
know nothing of it or its citizens a
lively impetus might thus be given to
the tide of immigration which other-
wise would ere long seek homes in the
distant west. Os course this sugges-
tion means that each paper accord-
ing to its ability surroundings etc.
be governed by its own judgment ns
to the number of copies it may fur-
nish for distribution. That the press
of Arkansas in its general make-up
will compare most fouorably with
that of any state in the Union there
is no doubt. Brethren what do you
say in response to the proposed
scheme? A decision should be ren-
dered immediately; there is no time
to lose.—Lafayette Recorder.
We most heartily concur in the
above sensible suggestion and if
any number of the press will agree
thereto we will get up an article as to
the advantages and resources of this
city and county for our paper and
print a thousand extra copies fer free
distribution from the Arkansas
World’s Fair building at Chicago.
If every newspaper man who at-
tends the meeting of the State press
association at Fort Smith on June
20th next will follow out the sug-
gestion Arkansas would indeed be
well advertised. Then when a visitor
in looking through the Arkansas
building at the. World’s Fair becomes
interested in the state and wishes to
seek a location ho or they can select
newspapers from different portions of
the Slate for examination and from
them gel a clearer and better idea of
what we have to offer the industrious
home-seeker.
By all means let all the news-
papers respond to this suggestion.
Who will help advertise Arkansas?
Speak out quick! It will be next to
useless for a few papers to comply
therewith as the idea is to have all
portions of the state go into the
scheme.
TENNESSEE’S DISGRACE.
Like Arkansas Tennessee is cursed
with a penitentiary lease system
which is a disgrace to her. Below
we give a press item showing the
corruption and inhumanity of her
system. It says:
“The committee appointed by the
Tennessee Legislature to visit the va-
rious stockades and camps in which
the convicts are kept by the lessees in
a report made Wednesday is very se-
vere in condemnation of the treat-
ment given the prisoners in every
prison except the ones nt Nashville
and Inman. It is alleged that the
convicts are insufficiently fed and
clothed and that they arc punished
too often and too severe. The re-
port also alleges that women prison
ers are often stripped naked and
whipped in the presence of men the
feet es the guard being placed on their
necks while they writhe in agony in-
flicted by the blows. Illegitimate
children have been bom in the pris-
ons the result of guards admitting
favorites to women's departments.
The report in the severest language
condemns the treatment t ccorded the
prisoners and whl create a revolu-
tion in that state against the lease
system.”
Boston suffered from another big
lire Saturday morning. The flames
swept away over four and a half
million dollars worth of properly
and three persons were burned to
death. This is her second great fire
within the past six months.

Swickley Penn.: We had an epi-

However poison may get into the blood
Hood's Sarsaparilla is the sovereign rem-
edy for its removal. Read this:
" We have used Hood's Sarsaparilla with the
best of satisfaction. When our oldest boy was
about a year old ho was afflicted with a skin
disease caused by poison oak. His feet legs
hands and face were literally
Covered With Blisters
which also extended over his whole body. The
blisters were at first white but when matured
they would discharge a yellowish watery sub-
stance. Sometimes a number of blisters would
1 run together forming a watery looking soro.
Sometimes (especially If tho night was warm)
wo could get no rest for the child would cry
and fret nil night. Finally after being
almost completely worn out by work through
tho day and tho want of rest at night physi-
cians failing to dej him any good I was Induced
to try a bottle of Hood’s Sarsaparilla. I am
