BEFORE AND AFTER—Five-year-old Bobby Arpin of Cranston, R.I., is a spectacular
example of the success of the March of Dimes rehabilitation program for children with
birth defects. Born with seven birth defects, including a cleft palate and restricted
movement of hip and knee, Bobby underwent oral surgery three years ago and then
was placed in traction, left. Subsequent rehabilitation at the Providence, R.I., Hospital
March of Dimes Center resulted in the agile, energetic Bobby at right. Doctors de-
scribe his progress as “fantastic.”
