ALFRED L. D. MOORE, OF LA GRANGE, TEXAS.
Letters Patent No. 103,355, dated May 84, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN OX-BOWS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sa neTo all whter it -ay concern :
Be it known that I, Arntmwo L. D. Moo~E, of La
Grange, in the county of Fayette and State of Texas,
have invented a new and ,seful Improvement in Ox-
Bows; and I do hereby declare that the following i'a
full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will
enable-others skilled in the art to make and use the
same, reference being had to the accompanying draw-
ing forming part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an ox-
bow which shall not require bending, and which may
be made in parts of the country where timber suita-
ble for bending is scarce; and it consists of making
the bow in sections, or partly of wood and .partly of
metal, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying drawing represents a longitudi-
nal section of an ox-bow, constructed according to
my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding
parts.
A is the lower portion or neck-piece of the bow,
which is made of metal or of any other suitable ma-
terial, with socket holes in its ends or with other pro-
vision for supporting the straight portions or sides of
the bow.
B B represents the sides or straight portions.
These side pieces B are secured in the curved partA, by means of the screw-pins C C, or in any other
suitable manner.
The tenons E E may extend entirely through the
cm:cred or neck-piece A, or only part way through as
may be desired. They may be connected with the
outside of the neck-piece A, by means of bolts or
rivets, in which case the socket holes will not be re-
quired.
The neck-piece A nay be made either solid or hol-
low (aside from the socket holes above referred to,)
dnd of any form desired so long as the proper curve
for the neck of the ox is secured.
By this method of forming the bow of an ox-yoke,
almost any timber may be used.
The curved portion or neck-piece A may be made
of iron, (either cast or wrought,) or of any material
suitable for the purpose.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-
ent-
Constructing ox-bows in sections, partly of wood
and partly of iroit, or other suitable material, substan-
tially as herein shown and described.
