Mrs. A. B. Ellison of the West
side died very suddenly yesterday
morning—was found dead in bed.
She had something like LaGrippe
but her family apprehended no ser-
ious results and her sad and unex-
pected death almost overcame the
invalid husband and family. They
have the sincere sympathy of many
friends.
The State Line Methodist church
would not hold the immense crowd
who wished to hear Mr. Luthur
Bensou's last temperance lecture.
It is superfluous to say all who
heard him were highly pleased. His
lectures are indeed "rich rare and
racy” and overflows with the milk
of human Kindness." Mr. Benson
left this morning for Mississippi.
Mr. H. A. Jacobs for thirty days
will sell the Joe Jacobs stock of
gents furnishings at actual New
York Cost. The cost mark will be
given to all who visit the store. An
SIBOOO stock to be sold in thirty
days. See big adv. giving cost
mark in tomorrow’s Texarkanian;
also see circulars on the. street to-
day giving same.
Earning an honest living is an ob-
ligation resting- on every man's
shoulders that he cannot escape
and he should stand in his lot with
manly spirit and be ready at all
times to sacrifice pleasure to meet
his pecuniary obligations. Indeed a
great happiness should be to main
tain a character for integrity and
reliability. But to spend money for
pleasure and leave your debts un-
paid is dishonest.
From the clever and genial mana-
ger of the Texarkana & Shreveport
Ry. Mr. Ben Collins we learn that
its work of extention over into Sul
phur township is progressing satis-
factory. By Saturday night it will
be completed across Sulphur river
and rails will be laid on the four
miles graded beyond the river at
one'e. This road will then be a good
feeder to Texarkana and a great
convenience to the people of Sul-
phur township.
Think of it—this country spends
one billion dollars for strong drink
annually. Luthur Benson proved
it from statistical tables. As he
said if whiskey selling was stopped
a milljon homes would be restored
to drunkard's families. Another
thing he said ought to be indelibly
fixed in the minds of the young men
and that is that but one man in a
thousand who drinks to excess ever
aeforms. Then young man beware
—touch not taste uot handle not
the unclean thing. •
The fourth Demorest contest for
Thursday night is given under the
auspices of the W. C. T. U. and all
money received will be used by this
noble woman’s order here at home
Mrs. E. N. Maxwell superintends
this depart mental work. The pro-
prietor of the Demorest Magazine
donates these medals in the interest
of the temperance cause; spends
$(19000 annually towards saving men
from (he whiskey curse. Let every-
body turn out and encourage so
laudable a cause.

terday Owen Bead was convicted
