hope some one would take State

shade trees on this thoroughfare.

Dr. Sam Ball was out last night

Doctor has taken many 7 rides to save
lives himself and he thought he
would take some pointers on the
way they rode in the play.
There was some sea island cotton
in the city yesterday raised in Lit-
tle River county Arkansas and
brought ten cents a pound. The
sea island seed can be bought for
$1 a bushel aud our farmers should
procure seed and raise this instead
of the short staple.
We had a pleasant call yesterday
from Mr T. W. Russell general
agent for Louisiana for the Fidelity
Loan and Trust Company of Mo-
bile Ala. Mr. Russell speaks of do-
ing business in our city and will be
heard through the columns of this
paper.
Let us fix up the crossings. Shav-
ings have proved to be the proper
thing in wet weather and they were
used extensively and quite a demand
sprung up for them as they were
given away but now that the mills
charge for them we do not see them
used any more.
Mr. Frank Buel whom we report-
ed several days ago as going to Dal-
las to be at his father’s bedside tel-
egraphed his partner here that his
father died yesterday. Mr. Willis
on receipt of the telegram closed
the store out of respect for the
dead. The Texakkanian otters its
condolence to Mr. Buel.
Mr. Ryon has had two more cars
painted and new wheels put under
them besides the necessary bear-
ings to make them run as if new.
We learn that on Monday the ser-
vice will be improved by the addi-
tion of another car and the Texas
side will be treated to a 15-minute
schedule instead ot a 30 minute one
as now. We say hurrah for Mr.
Whitley the owner and his clever
superintendent Ryon.
A young lady called yesterday and
asked us what "neoterically'' meant.
We asked her to be seated and
while pretending to get coal to fill
up the stove we glanced in Web-
ster's dictionary and found it meant
"recently;’' "newly.” We pushed
back our roach and told her what
the (Ml nit ion was and she said her
mind was now relieved as she was
about to fall out with one of her
best friends who asked her if those
shoes she had on were neoterically
purchased and she thought it meant
something awful
Mr. Tom Yeager an employe of
this office received a Christmas box
from his father and mother who
live at Bingen Arksansas yester-
day. The good parents of Tom had
him a nice dressed turkey cooked
to a turn plenty of bread cakes
pies butter nuts goobers and
many more good things to eat. If
they knew Tom a« we do and they
Certainly do they touched him on
a tender spot when they sent him
something to eat for we have learn-
ed that Thomas can keep a knife
and fork in the air in their gyrations
from plate to mouth as fast as any
gormandizer. We can say Tom was
very thankful for the present.

We have on our table a marked
copy of the Washington Post sent
us by our friend C. S. Todd. We
glean from it that Mr. Todd has
been admitted as a practicioner be-
fore that court and also find the
case he went there to represent re
ported in the court proceedings as
follows: “No. 780. The Kildare
Lumber Co appellant vs. The Na-
tional Bank of Commerce of Kan-
sas City Mo. etal.; petition fora
writ of certiorari to the United
States Circuit Court of Appeals for
the Fifth Circuit; submitted by Mr.
Charles S. Todd and Mr. M. L.
Crawford for the appellant in sup
port of the petition and by Mr.
Elijah Robinson for the appellees
in opposition thereto.”
