Y Jody Conradt, coordinator of
women’s sports at the University
of Texas at Arlington, will become
the first full-time coach for
women’s athletics at the University
of Texas at Austin. Conradt, a
native of Goldthwaite, has coached
- state champions in three sports on
the collegiate level, winning
basketball and volleyball titles and
the state softball crown at
/ UT-Arlington.
The Eaglettes managed 74 points
in the Santa Anna Relays to
capture second place out of 36
schools. Jim Ned won the meet
with 77 points.

City Manager W. C. Barnett
reported to the city council
Monday night that twenty-four new
stop signs have been purchased by

anniversary Tuesday, March 6.
Mrs. Perkins is the former Laura
Whitt.

March 17, 1966.
Dow Hudson, longtime Goldth-
waite businessman, has been
awarded a 50 year Citation of
Achievement by the Texas State
Board of Pharmacy. The certificate
which is signed by members of the
State Board is a tribute to Mr.
Hudson for faithfully fulfilling 50
years of devoted service and for
his continued interest which has
made an important contribution to
the ethical and technical programs
of pharmacy. Mr. Hudson has
been a druggist in the same
building and location in Goldth-
waite for 45 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Allen of
Goldthwaite are the parents of a
daughter, Vicki Carla Allen, born
in San Saba Hospital, Wednesday
morning, March 9, 1966. She
weighed eight pounds, ten ounces.
Vicki Carla has a big sister, Tana,
who is two years old, to welcome
her home.
Mr. and Mrs. John Nowell
announce the arrival of a son,
James Kevin Nowell, born at San
Saba Memorial Hospital, March 5,
1966. He weighed six pounds,
twelve ounces.

Chapter showed the best pen of 15
lambs from any one county in the
Houston Livestock Show in Hous-
ton last week.
Sales contract was signed
Monday whereby the city of

the City of Goldthwaite offices on
the west side of the square to the

March 21, 1941.
The March 18th call for men for
military service by the selection
service board of Goldthwaite was
for three Mills County men. Those
complying with the call and
leaving for induction camp were:
Forest Lewis Straley, Jack Lock-
lear, and Elton Allen Jarrett.
Four hundred sixty-five 50 pound
mattresses have been processed in
Mills County Cotton Centers since
the beginning of the 1941 cotton
program in early February. These
centers: Live Oak, Mt. Ollve,
Ratier, Ridge, Prairie and Nabors
Creek, have completed the pro-
cessing of the 1941 mattresses.

Martin and Cline are having the
finishing touches put on their
opera house and picture palace in
the Martin building on the east
side of the square.
Last week the Parent and
Teachers Club distributed among
school children of Goldthwaite, 200
packages of flower seed and
offered three prizes for the
prettiest flowers grown from the
seed: $2.50 for the first; $1.50 for
the second; and $1.00 for the
third. The Club likewise offers
these prizes to the children who
raise the finest vegetables.

The annual Polio Drive in Mills
County this year collected a total
of $1,306.16, according to Howard
Campbell, fund drive chairman and
W. C. Barnett treasurer.
Center City News -
There are several cases of
measles in the community, Sandra
Head, Hilda Mae Franks and
Dennis Coffman, are victims of
measles this week.
Several out this way are
shearing goats. I am afraid
someone will have to sit up with
them these cold nights.
Chappell Hill News -
Most everyone in this community
reported ice during the cold
weather. Mrs. Ivy reported that
some of her early garden was
damaged by the cold weather.
We are sorry to learn that Mr.
and Mrs. Noel Ledbetter’s year old
son is a surgical patient at a Waco
hospital. Later he will have to have
treatment for polio.

March 13, 1931.
Fire yesterday morning totally
destroyed a small residence on the
Luther Rudd farm, a few miles
north of Lake Merritt Community.
The occupants of the house, a
widow and her small children, lost
everything in the way of house
furnishings and most of their
clothing.
Dumbel Hamilton of Star has
accepted a position at the Trent
State Bank. He was formerly
employed in this bank and is well
acquainted with the line of
business.

in Brownwood at the Junior High
Bluebonnet Relays and finished in
7th and 3rd, places respectively.

met with a painful accident. He
dropped his reins and when he
reached for them he became over
balanced and fell over the dash
board. The horses became
frightened and after kicking Mr.
Burger on the head ran for some
distance before he was stopped
by some parties who happened to
be in the road.
Dorothy joins me in thanking all
those special people who were so
thoughtful during my stay at St.
David’s Hospital after my surgery.
