vault, advances to state
Regional qualifiers from Goldthwaite High School partici-
pated in the Region II-AA meet held last Friday and Satur-
day at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville.
“There was a lot of stiff competition and good performances
turned in by these athletes,” Coach Gary Proffitt said.
Bobby Deeds got things started for the Eagles on a good
note by winning the pole vault competition with a vault of
14’6”. Four vaulters remained in at 14’, and three managed to
clear 14’6”. Bobby made it on his first attempt while the two
others made it on their third and final try.
By virtue of his fewer misses, Bobby will represent the
Eagles at the State Track and Field Meet set for May 15-16
at Memorial Stadium in Austin. Bobby will vault at noon on
Friday, May 15th.
Also competing at the Regional Meet was Steven Miles in
the 400 meter run, and he ran a season best 52.3 seconds.
Bobby Deeds also ran in the 200 meter run and the 1600
meter relay team ran a 3:33.94. On this team was Deeds,
Miles, Corey Miles and John Henson.
“Even though we didn’t qualify anyone for the finals in the
running events, this group of tracksters played an important
role as leaders and builders for the future of Eagles track.
These guys worked hard and did a great job of improving
each week and had the opportunity to run a few extra weeks
when others did not. Congratulations on a great season,”
Coach Proffitt concluded.
