As we hoped it would, the At-
ascosa News-Monitor copied
our little news item about the
proposed bond issue in Atascosa
county, with some sarcastic and
rather insulting remarks: fortu-
nately the people of that county
know us and know him. He
brands the people of Lytle as a
bunch of Kluxers and constau-
tly bemeans that order as fit
only for hades. We opine that
his little song will soon be sung.
The good people of Lytle have
tried every honorable way to get
the $6,000. to accept the $19,000
offered by the Highway Depart-
ment to link up their part of the
highway; and highway depart-
ment offered the courthouse
bunch at Jourdanton to refund
the $6,000 on some other road
in the county, and Lytle tried
to arrange so that it would
come out of their funds; but no.
the people of Lytle had enough
self respect to vote against a
nan who before the election
told them where they could
head in. They were in the mi-
nority at the last election,, when
the good people aid not know
the truth; but it is 'gradually
soaking in and the tide will
turn, some day. The News is
attending to its own business in
trying to get Justice done by its
constituents, and get a much
needed piece of highway built,
which all south west Texas, a-
long the I. & G. N. wants built;
which the State Highway Depar
ment wants built and will build.
We are publishing invitations

the additional grade this year,
with five new ones. The grad-

PROMINENT NEGRO LOSES
. MIND IT IS THOUGHT
Jim Jones, age about 45, a
well to do negro, who has been
a good citizen or Devine for
twenty years, created much ex-
citement in the lower parts of
town one day this week by tak-
ing a couple of shots with an
old pistol at his wife and mother
in-law, neigher taking effect.
When the women ran off and
the officers came, Jim had a
wild look and said they had been
trying to poison him, and the
folks said he had been acting
funny for some time. His bro-
ther, his wife's brother and oth-
ers, under directions of the offi-
cers watched ar dguarded him
for a couple of days, during
which time he repeatedly insist-
ed that they were trying to pois
on him, burning loco weeds un-
der his bed, etc. Saturday morn-
ing, as he seemed to get no bet-
ter, officers took him to jail in
Hondo. His wife has acted in
a way to assure the officers that
she has not misstreated him and
that it is all a hallucination. Jim
Jones stands well among all the
white folks in town and all are
very sorry for him.
