Header Canyon Location Eastern Pecos County is in the Trans Pecos Region of western Texas which contains the Stockton Plateau portion of the Edward's Plateau Land Resource Area and consists of limestone capped mesas of lower Cretaceous age with canyons and erosional valleys between the mesas. Soils in the area of Sherbino Mesa are classified as Ector-Sanderson-Rock outcrop and includes shallow, gently sloping to steep gravelly material and solid limestone rock. In the valleys and canyons associated with the Tunas Creek soil is classified as Reagan-Hodgins-Iraan includes deep nearly level loamy soils both on the uplands and in the flood plain. The area's economy is dependent on ranching, irrigated farming, petroleum industry, wind electric generation and tourism associated with many historic trails, forts and natural springs in the area. Hunting of deer, turkey, dove, quail and exotic animals by out of town people is another form of tourism that is increasing in recent years. Discussion: -S This rock art was discovered by Shane Cohea (now deceased) who was a ranch hand on the Woodward ranch in 2008. Before he could take his employer to the pictographs, he was hospitalized with severe pneumonia. The rancher knew which little header canyon it was supposed to be located in, but was never able to actually find this shelter. He requested the Iraan Archeology Society to help locate it as well as any other Native American sites nearby. This little header canyon is now called locally "Cohea Canyon". The shelter measures 11 meters (34') in length, 6 meters (18') deep from the drip line and 3 meters (10') tall as shown in Figure 3. No smoke blackened ceiling, fire cracked rocks, mortar holes or any other IF-o4-Ma Fiue apiedNte'a
