dock found an old hat In the cargo.
He pitched it through a hatchway to
a deck hand, who threw it to a lighter
man, who in turn tossed It to a
Thames boatman. The latter "took
it home to the kida" who found in
the lining of the hat 103 one dollar
bills.

Girl Missing; Her Watch
In Alligator’s Stop nach.
The finding of a gold watch and
chain in the ston bach of an alligator
that died in a pond at Farsythe, Ga.,
Is believed to sole the disappearance
of 12-year-old Janet Thomson from
Island Grove, ‘Pla., two years ago.
The alligator was captured some few
weeks after the girl disappeared.
Mrs. Minerva Samples, familiarly
known as Grandma Samples, was born
in Anderson county, Tenn., Sept. 4,
1822, She was a noble, Christian
woman, enbracing Christianity when
only 14 years old, ever thereafter liv-
ing true to the teachings of her
Savior.
Mrs. Samples was married in Brad-
ley county, Tenn., in 1855, removing to
Texas in 1859 in which state she con-
tinued to reside until the time of her
death. For the last five .years she
has lived In Wichita Falls and had
many friends who are sorrowful on
account of her death, which occurred
August 1,1911, following an illness of
nine days that resulted from a fall.
Bad aa we are on account of her
departure, we mourn not for grand-
ma as we would for one without hope
We know that ahe will dwell in the
land where there is no sickness or
sorrow and we bow submissively to
the will of a just Redeemer.

Vardaman’s Majority Over Percy Is
26,378—Second Primary for
Commissioner.
Jackson, Miss., Aug. 10.—The Demo-
cratic executive committee met today
canvassed the returns and declared
resolutions of the contest for state of-
fices in the primary on Aug. 1.
James K. Vardaman’s majority for
the United States senate over Leroy
Percy and C. H. Alexander is 26,378.
Theodore G. Bilbo defeated both
opponents for lieutenant governor by
a majority of 23,455.
Other nominees declared are:
Attorney generl, Ross A. Collins;
secretary of state, J. W. Powers;
land commissioner, M. A. Brown,
treasurer, P. 8. Stovall; revenue agent.
Wirt Adams: commissioner of agricul-
ture, H. E. Blaskelee: prison trustees
C., C. Smith, Leroy Taylor and W. A.
Montgomery; railroad commissioners.

prosecution in the trial of the Me-
Namaras, alleged dynamiters, will
summon, it is said, about 150 witnesses
and the defense fully as many. Detes
tives are to be sent to all parts of
the United States to summon persons

the district attorney’s office, are not
having the success in locating those
wanted as are the women detectives
