There are some men you rarely ev-
er miss from the street corners and
shady places in town. No matter
how badly the corn needs plowing or
the roads needs working, they are
found at their old places.
If we waited to see what the street
loafers and self appoint# critics want-
ed us to print in this paper, it simply
wouldn't come out, and these critics
are the first to reach the office to get a
copy—they like it better than if' we
waited to see them about it.
Sears and Roebuck will begin short-

in Dallas. This is just a small part
of the-profits they have made off the
people, who thought they were geting
cheaper goods than they could get
from the home merchant; who thou-

The Republican convention meets
this week in Chicago, and it seems
still very doubtful as to who will be
nominated to the presidency. It is
not believed that the liquor question,
wil be mentioned; whie the Democrats
are expected to-have a big row over
this question In Ran Francisco.
President Wilson evidently believes
it were better hot to have peace, than,
"Peace without honor”. We helped
the allies whip the buns and then ran
away—one prominent French writer
says we played Pilate in "washing our
hands" of the matter anl not finishing
the job.

We are a little handicapped this
week because our foreman, Matt E.
Dubose had to take his company to
Galveston, and was so busy getting
his men together that he could do no-
thing in the office this week. How
ever Charlie Dubose and Edward Mc-
Canna, will be able to get the paper
out we think. Mat thinks he will re-
turn by last of next week.. Some par-
ticular Job work may have to await
his return.

Easy to Thread.
A Redditch needle maker has in-
vented a new kind of needle which
makes “threading” much • more easy
than with the orthodox type. His nee-
die, instead of having a complete loop
for its eye, has a tiny gap in the loop,
into which the thread can be slipped
instantly without the wearisome dodg-
ing that the present type requires.

He loved to cross the water,
This lot he gladly chose.
But this duty was denied him,
For illness laid him low.
And though deaths dark deep

He then seemed called to go.
Yet God in tender mercy.
Answered the earnest prayers,
Of loving friends and mother,
And so his life he spares,
That he may longer linger
Returning to his home,
With patient resignation
For what must surely come
And here withprecious loved ones.
He viewed the mirrowed past,
of full of grief and shadow.
With sunshine following fast,
. And in the fu tur s vista,
He saw his guiding star,
Ever onwand, upward,
It pointed not so far
And like a fallen mantle
The past all lain aside,
He’s gone to be with Jesus,
And in his love abide,
We know he’s only sleeping
in the Resurrection morn.
We’ll meet our boy in Heaven
If we our cross have borne,
And with those gone before us.
We’ll meet and sing Gods praise.
With Christ the King of Glory,
Mid Heavens Celestial Rays,
And We'll weep no more nor sorrow
Since weknow that you're at rest.
