MELVIN MAN SELLS ONE OF
FINE VIOLIN'S FOR 180
Melvin, Aug. 29.—L. E. Reader,
Melvin violin maker, this week sold
to T. J. Henderson one of the fin-
est instruments Mr. Reader has
ever built. The sale price was re-
ported at $80.
Mr. Henderson purchased the in-
strument for his son who is a col-
lege violin student.
The violin was completed two
years ago after Mr. Reader had
spent 180 hours in completing it.
Tools used in making the violin
were sardpaper, a piece of glass
2 and a pocket knife. The wood
came from Germany, France and
- other foreign countries while the
keys were made of black walnut se-
cured from the Kerrville country.
The instrument is noted for its
tone.
Mr. Reader, as well as his daugh-
ter, Miss Edna Mae Reader, is a
violin artist. Both are well
known over West Texas for their
music.

The Prohibition rally program
sponsored by the local W. C. T. U.
. 1 in the court room last Thursday
51s evening was well attended. The
940 speakers of the evening were Dr.
P. T. Stanford, pastor of First
Methodist Church, Brownwood, and
who is also a World War veteran,
and Miss Willie Fay McElroy of
Howard Payne College, Brown-
.o- wood. They were introduced by
727 W. W. Spiller, Mayor of Brady.
Dr. Stanford gave a most inspir-
ing lecture, presenting clearly the
facts of the prohibition issue.
■ Those who failed to hear this man,
missed a wonderful message.
Miss McElroy, who has been
touring the state in behalf of the
young people, quoted many state-
ments from college presidents
showing that the liquor problem in
schools was much improved during
the years of prohibition. She ap-
pealed to the older people to up-
oehold and protect the youth of our
