The "Bloody Handprints Of Alice Todd”
Recalled In San Saba By Oldtimers
I The "Bloody Handprints N N'
San Saba, Feb 6.-- With many
early Texas history stories in the
' air at the present time, oldtimers
recall the story of the 'Bloody
I Handprints of Alice Todd" on the
rocks in the Sloan pasture, several
miles west of the city and the facts
I as well as the legend that goes with
! the painting on the rocky bluffs
| there. Many requests have come
into the historical department of
the Old Settlers’ Association, to the
local newspapers, as well as the
Chamber of Commerce for infor-
mation on the subject.
J. A. Sloan, whose father was
one of the first settlers of the
county, owns the land. Many old
I settlers, especially W. I. Hubbert
of this city, remember Alice Todd
smooth face of the rock bluff and
leaned her face on them. The
prints are red, the fingers small,
like a woman's, and the imprint is
four feet from the ground.

received, the district office will
largely be marking time.
The blanks so far received have
been distributed thru the offices
of the city secretary, Chamber of
Commerce, and county judge. At
each of these places the services
of a stenographer has been avail-
able for assistance in making out
the application forms. While the
state regulations permit a charge
for such assistance in any amount,
not to exceed $10, a uniform
charge of $2 per application has
been suggested by Mr. Trigg lo-
cally. At Llano, the supervisor
suggested a charge of $1 per appli-
cation.
Mr. Trigg continues to receive
many applications for positions
from over the district. However,
since he has no authority to give
positions or make appointments of
any kind, such applications are
wasted effort. All employes are
named by state headquarters of-
fice.

Bob Prater, a quarter of a cen-
tury ago one of the leading cot-
ton buyers of Brady, passed away
at his home in Brownwood last
Saturday, after an illness extend-
ing over the past twelve years. Mr.
Prater was widely known over this
section of Texas, and news of his
passing will be learned with regret
by all his old-time friends.
The Brownwood Bulletin Mon-
day gave the following account of
his death:
"Funeral services were held Sun-
day afternoon at four o’clock for
R. G. Prater, prominent resident
of Brownwood, who died Saturday
evening at 7:25 following an ill-
ness of several months. Mr. Pra-
ter had been in declining health for
a number of years. Final rites
were held at the residence, 1709
Austin Avenue, and interment fol-
lowed in Greenleaf Cemetery.
"Robert Grundy Prater, son of
Captain and Mrs. H. T. Prater was
born October 14, 1873 in Murf-
reesboro, Tennessee. At the age of
eight years he moved with his par-
ents to Texas, the family making
their home at Belton. In 1898 he
moved to Brownwood and on Oc-
tober 5th of that same year was
married to Miss Nealie Parks.
"A cotton buyer in Brownwood
and other points in Texas, Mr.
Prater was a prominent business
:man of this entire section. Twelve
years ago, due to poor health, he
was forced to retire from active
business but continuously retained
his interest in the welfare and ac-
tivities of the city.
"Mr. Prater is survived by his
wife and by three sisters, Mrs.
. Joe Dillin, Nashville, Tennessee;
Mrs. A. M. Methvin, Temple, Tex-
| as and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Oster-
haut, Belton,
"Rev. Ben H. Moore, pastor of
Austin Avenue Presbyterian
Church, was in charge of the serv-
ices.”
