FISHING LAW NO. 587
(Fredericksburg Standard)
Anglers are reminded that it is
now illegal to fish from bridges
on roads in Texas maintained by
the State Highway Department.
The bill providing this was passed
recently by the state Legislature
as a safety measure when it was
pointed out that several hundred
persons were killed last year while
fishing off bridges. It is also il-
legal to leave fish on bridges.

NEW LIQUOR CONTROL
ACT FINALLY PASSED
A new liquor control law will go
into effect in Texas in mid-Sep-
tember if signed by the governor.
The bill was sponsored in the

rule is that a precinct in a wet
county may vote dry but a pre-
cinct in a dry county may not vote

flirt. The term needs constant re-
definition. For instance, automo-
biles are a part of modern life.
Every man ought to have the right
to drive one if he can get it. Yet—•
it is certainly unwise to allow him
to drive it while drunk, or when
physically unfit, or when the car
itself lacks brakes or a proper
steering gear.
Seventeen states now require
motor vehicle inspection, the Inter-
national Association of Police
Chiefs reports. The freedom to
drive a car is subordinated to the
freedom of others to be reason-
ably safe on the roads. Almost
every instance of freedom today
must be subjected to the same
test: as much freedom as does not
conflict with a like freedom for
others.

ANYTHING BUT THAT

Cherished among the many le-

people of New Mexico is the story
of San Ysidro.
It seems that San Ysidro was
plowing his garden one Spring
day, when an angel appeared and
said to him, “The Lord wants to
see you, Ysidro. Come with me."
Ysidro plowed on. “I can’t go
now,” he answered. “You tell the
Lord that I’m late in getting my
corn planted and that I’ll see Him
