Cotulla’s Boy Scout Troop 150
spent last weekend working on
three nature/management trails
on the Chaparral Wildlife Man-
agement Area. One trail will be a
walking trail of approximately two
miles in length. The second trail
is an S.4 mile-long driving trail.
The third trail is about 1/4 mile in
length adjacent to the Wildlife
Area’s check station,office build-
ing and will also be a walking trail.
Most ol the Scouts'efforts were
spent in locating and marking the
longer walking trail.. As the Scouts
were in the field actually deciding
the trail's route, they were also
locating and marking special natu-
ral features that will be highlighted
in the trail's brochure. Our Troop
has taken on the task of not only
helping to determine the routes
of each nail but also working up

Christmas Variety Show set Dec. 17 Boy Scouts work on trails

Chris Harrison, Bobby Sackett,
Tony Ayala, Uvaldo Garcia III,
and Robert Sanchez. Adult lead-
ers included Lloyd Stephenson,
Jim Daniel. and Beverly and Bill
Brummel. The weather was ex-
cellent for camping out and work
ingon the trails. There were two
close encounters with javelinas,
and another with a small rattle-
snake. but the worst trail prob-
lems were getting too close to
prickly pear and brush thorns.
Everybody put in a hard day's work
and sleep came very quickly on
Saturday night!
Cotulla - The high point 4-H
members in LaSalle County were
announced at the 4-H awards
program held recently . This award
is presented to one 4-H member
in eai h age div ision and is deter-
mined on a point system for ac-
ti\ ities conducted during the past
year.
In the pre junior division Megan
Sherman received the award.
During the past year Megan par-
ticipated in the beef project, horse
project and horticulture project.
In her project work she showed a
steer at the county show, partici-
pated in the district horse show.
Megan also participated in the
District 4-H Roundupand placed
first in the extemperanous speak-
ing contest. Megan completed a
record book in beef which received
first in county and a blue ribbon at
district competition. During the

sales; $71.92 went to t he state and
we have a total of $722.K4 in the
Poppy Fund that can be used only
for helping Veterans and their
families. Kathy has sent in 24
senior memberships and 4 jun
iors. President Gass emphasized
that all memberships must be in

the District has been submitted
and we want at least 100%. Kathy
called names who have not paid
and we are to contact them.
Giving Poppy money to needy
veterans and their families were
discussed and no one knew of any
locally. President Gass said that
money is not doing anyone any
good in the bank and suggested
we send a contribution to Audi
lemperanous speaking. He com-
pleted a record book in Agricul-
ture which placed first at county
and district. During the past year,
Clint attended eight club meet-
ings.
Jennifer Daughtrey is the high
point 4-H member in the senior
division. During the past year,
Jennifer has completed projects
in Food and Nutrition, Clothing
and Poultry. Jennifer participated
in the county and district food
show, county and district fashion
show at the La Salle County Jun-
ior Livestock Shi w with herpoul-
tn project. Jennifer served as
Secretary of the Cotulla 4-H Club
last year and is presently serving
as President. She attended seven
club meetings during the past year.
Congratulations to these 4-H
members for their accomplish-
ments during the past year.

Cotulla The American Le-
gion and Auxiliary met at the
Legion I lull 490 for their regular
meeting on December 2,1991. A
small crowd assembled but we had
plenty local before breaking into
separate groups for our meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gass from
Castroville and Mr. and Mrs.
Aniceto Colunga, 23rd District
Commander, from Hondo were
present.
In the absence of both the
president and vice-president,
Kathy Daughtrey, secretary, pre-
sided. She, I x ins Ik aker and Jessie
Plocek were the only members
present Dorothy Gass, president
of 23rd District and Ofeila Colunga
met with us.
Doris Boeker, treasurer, re-

A new Scouting program called
BSAT.R.Al.L. Boss will be kicked
off nationally during the Boy Scout
National Jamboree in August of

Mr. Bill Brummel, was one of the
ten adult Scouters in the nation to
be selected to take the first BSA
T.R.A.I.L. Boss training at
Philmont Training Center in
northern New Mexico last sum-
mer. Since Mr. Brummell works
for the Texas Parks and Wildlife
Dept, on the Chaparral Wildlife
Area, the Department’s need for
these nature management trails
plus his having just received the
T R A I L. Boss training and his
involvement with our Troop

We hope the new year will bring
more members of both the Ameri-
can Legions and Auxiliary out to

vice-president of the Cotulla 4-H
club and attended eight club
meetings.
Clint Wolfe was high point
winner in the junior division.
During the past year Clint com-
pleted projects in Food and Nu-
trition, Beef, Poultry, Goat,
Horticulture and shooting sports.
In his project work Clint partici-
pated in the county and district
food show. At the La Salle County
Junior Livestock Show he exhib-
ited beef, poultry and goat proj-
ects. He also exhibited beef proj-
ects at the San Antonio and
Houston Livestock Show and
poultry projects at the Houston
Livestock Show. In the horticul-
ture project Clint participated in
the district vegetable show. He
participated in the District 4-H
roundup and placed first in ex-
Korczynski and Ricky Hillje.

the county medals. A 4-H mem-
ber must turn in a complete rec-
ord book in order to be eligible
for this award. A 4-1 Per can re-

Sherman in the Beef Project and
Clint Wolfe in the Agriculture
program area.
The 4-H members recognized
the volunteer leaders for all their
help during the past year. With-
out their support, dedication and
help the 4-H program would not
be possible. A special thanks goes

Cotulla - 4-H members and
leaders in La Salle County were
honored at the county 4-H awards
program for the accomplishments
they made during the past year in

Cotulla - Nine 4-H members
took top honors at the La Salle
County 4-H food show held No-
vember 23 at the show barn meet-
ing room in Cotulla. They com-
peted against other youths in the
county in the pre-junior, junioi
and senior division.
First place winners in the pre-
juniordivision was Roy Franklin,
main dish: Randy Landrum,
Breads and Cereals: Monica
Maldonado, Fruitsand Vegetables
and Kasey Brown. Snacks and
Desserts.
In the Junior Div ision first place
winners were: Brandi Boatwright.
Fruits and Vegetables; David Diaz,
Snacks and Desserts, Missy Mar-
tin, Breads and Cereals and Jenna
Watson. Main dish. Placing first
in the senior division was Rebecca
Tenery in the Bread and Cereals
division.
All first place winners received
a trophy and the right to repre-
sent La Salle County at the Dis-
trict 4-H food show to be held in
Castroville on December 7.
All food show participants
received a blue ribbon on their
food show entry. Receiving blue
ribbons were: Pre-Junior divi-
sion - Roy Franklin, Ester Curiel,
Randy Landrum, Stacy Ramirez.
Monica Maldonado, R.J. Watons,
Kasey Brown and Jeffery Landrum.
Junior Division - Brandi

the food and nutrition project and
worked to prepare the 4-H’ers for

Kathy Daughtrey. The 4-H mem-
bers would also like to thank Judy
