TOO MUCH ORNAMENT.
The merchants In the vicinity of
Market square have a grievance. They
made up and paid over $5006 towards
the building to get the new market
located where it in and the market
building la all right but in the manage-
ment and arangetnent of the grounds
a great blunder has unquestionably
been made and the whole thing seems
a failure. There is a'market house
and the business is comparatively nil:
there Is a convention hall and the last
two conventions were held elsewhere.
One evil is that' the city officials have
blockaded the market house with too
much of the park and garden ornamen
tatlon that obstructs business and is
not needed because there are some
nice parks opposite ft. It has been
suggested that at least one of these
horticultural ornamentations especial-
ly that obstructing the front passage
be removed and in its place there be an
open space covered with concrete or
asphalt.—Boerne Post.

Thia block of "paving” is really
worth a visit by all citizens. The "at-
pha'.t” looks an if It had small white
rocks in It and the surface has the col-
or and appearance of hard mud dried
In the nun. •
With a boot heel it can be kicked
up in any of the rougher places and
i any of it can lie crumbled between the
Ungers with greater ease than a hard
piece of dried mud.
The blade of a pen-knife Inserted in
the "asphalt" will bring up quite a
chunk which can be crumbled into
dust between the fingers. It would
last from all appearances about fif-
teen minutes under ordinary traffic
conditions. A horee'a shoe would cut
it all to pieces with ease.
This wonderful block of "paving"
must be seen "to be appreciated” and
a visit to it by citizens wold not be
time wasted as they could learn much
of interest on the paving matter.
They can visit the work make the
tests suggested and see (or themselves

mitted In the name of paving by the
