to help locate the convict. Accom-
panied by Sheriff Gourley he picked
up the trail south of the railroad in
the western part of the city and af-
ter some difficulty got on his trail
some distance west of town as Jimi-
nez was making for the nearby
mountains where he evidently hoped
to elude his pursuers.
Miller and Gourley overtook the
Mexican at Lizard mountain, about
five miles west of town after an ex-
citing chase, during which time Mil-

that the convict did some tall run-
ning. He offered no resistance and

Now, nobody could blame the
Herald scribe for wanting these men
to play on the Mines’ team but where
the above information came from is
quite a mystery as none of the men
mentioned know anything about the
scheme the Herald sports writer has

little joke so the aforesaid sports
writer became brazen and ‘in the
Herald of August 27 came right out
and spoke as follows: “Cowan, Al-
ford and Ford, stars of the Sul Ross
backfield last year, considered
among the greatest gridders ever to
play in this section, will UNDOUBT-
EDLY be seen in Texas School of
Mines’ uniforms this year.” Just

up his sleeve to slap the Miner
i brand on these untamed Lobos.
I Football fans of this section feel
that it is poor sportsmanship and
questionable ethics for a rival school
or a newspaper supporting a rival
club to engage in the tactics resort-
ed to by the Herald in circulating
such rumors, especially when such
statements are based on absolutely
no foundation whatever.
The Herald came out about this
time last year with the same line
about Sul Ross players, yet not a
man left here to go to El Paso. The
reason for these statements appear-
ing in the Herald is yet to be ex-
plained.
Another slight gain in attendance!
at Alpine Sunday schools was re-
ported last week over the Sunday be-
fore. The total last Sunday was]
312; ten more than the week before.
It is, believed that there will be a
noticable gain when the long term
of college begins.
Last Sunday’s figures were as fol-
lows:
Baptist, 140. 1
Christian, 58.
Church of Christ, 16. !
Methodist, 119. |
Presbyterian, 58.

accompanied the body to Iowa Park,
Texas, where it was shipped on Mon-
day morning. / :
