ournament History In 1968 when the Frisch Auf! golf course was just
getting underway, the U. of H. golf team accepted an invitation to come to La
Grange. The purpose of their visit was, first to show the folks of our area how
this game of golf can be played, for this group is probably the finest assembly
of collegiate golfers in the world. They have won the National Collegiate Golf
-Championship 12 of the last 16 years. Second, it drew public attention to the
fine golf course available to local golfers.
The tournament proved to be such a pleasant experience for both our com-
munity and the golfers that it developed into an annual function.
Tournament Procedure Each local golfer pays a fee to play. This reven-
ue permits him to host a dinner at the completion of the tournament for his
guest, a U. of H. athlete and his wife or girl friend. This year’s function will
be held in the recently completed Frisch Aufl Valley Country Club. A small
portion of this money is used to provide the tournament winners with a few
new golf balls. This is merely to add a bit of competition into the spirit of the
day.
Tournamani Cnaneare
I ournament sponsors It was decided at the beginning that an event such
as this should have some lasting influence on both our community and the U. of
H. golf team. This “Reason for Being" so to speak, is provided each year by
a generous donation on the part of our local merchants and members and friends
of the country club.
This money collected, from the sponsors is used for two things. First, a por-
tion is placed in a modest scholarship to aid some worthy local student. This is
in the name of the Frisch Aufl Valley Country Club, and second, it provides the
U. of H. golf team with a proport aze check to be used to further the interest
of golf at their school.
The sponsors below made this all possible. If you see fit to thank them for
helping to shape our community as a little nicer place to live, they will be pleas-
ed.
