FQUANAH, Texas, Aug. 28. — Qua-
han’s tire department, with city
officialise and a few invited guests,
staged the semi-annual chicken
barbecue Friday night. About 40
persons ware present, listened to the
speeches, and enjoyed the apread
barbecued fowl with all the
“trimmings.”
Twice a year these barbecues are
held, nad the fire department to be-
coming noted for the hospitality and
cordial good times at them.

win be made to complete tbs organ-
ization of sn artillery company of
the Oklahoma National Guard In
Altus immediately after Adjutant
Gen. Charles Barrett returns to Ok-
lahoma City, after the close of the
encampment at Fort Sill
Approximately 40 moa of Altus
have signified their intentions of
joining the company and Id to the
number required.
In case the organization la per-
fected here it will bring approxi-
mately $30,000 a year to the town,
from th. amount of equipment and
expenditure. About 75 horses will

being made to place a large number

FIRE RUINS SERVICE
CAR AT BURKBURNETT
BURKBURNETT, Texas, Aug. 28.
—A service truck belonging to the
Caro Motor Company was badly
damaged by fire Friday night, while
being driven by one of the employee
of the company for the purpose st
pulling in a wrecked ear. The track
suddenly buret into flames when
shout thro, miles south of the city
and had to be abandoned. The loss
will probably amount to $1,000.
