. Recruiting and examination of re-
40c cruits for the Texas National Guard
7-2 will be continued through Sunday.
Lieutenant Dameron will be at Mr.
Kell’s office in the Kemp and.Kell
building thorughout the day for the
examination of recruits, and the re
cruiting headquarters in J. B. Mar
low’s office at the corner of Seventh
street and Indiana avenue will be
open all .____
The impression has gone abroad that
no more. recruits were desired for the
two companies of the National Guard
here. This is a mistake.Recruits are
not only wanted but are badly needed.
More- recruits are being found -unfit-
for service than had been expected.
Out-of:145 examined up to last night
only 86. had. been accepted. At this
rate more recruits will be needed to
fill the two companies here to full
strength.
A Only a few days remain in which
young men between the ages of Land
may volun teer. Up to Monda y mid
night young men of these ages can
volunteer in the National Guard. Af-
ter that timethey will be subject to
draft.
Lieutenant Dameron urges as many
as possible of these already enlisted
to appear today for examination. Oth-
ers are urged to bring a friend for en-
listment to the recruiting headquar-
ters. Lieut. Dameron says he is giving
_ a strict examination so that those who
- are passed will not be likely to be turn
E ed down by the federal examiners.

JUNG WORKERS
RAISE HEAT SUM
TO AID STARVING
SEE APPEAL ON PRINTED CARDS
AND PROMPTLY SET TO WORK
TO OBTAIN MONEY
Wichita Falls’ youngest and most
enthusiastic war relief workers are
the little. Misses Mary Pressley and
Dorothy Hines, who are volunteer re
cruits of the Children of America’s
Association, formed for the purpose of
helpings feed the little starving child-
ren of Belgium. And the self appointed
campaigners in their first few hours
of Work Friday afternoon secured $7
from thier neighbors which will mean
that 70 little Belgium children will
have food for one day, as it takes only
10 cents a day to assurea child one
one day’s food. They intend to keep
up their work until they have ever so
much money.
The cards, which were found in the
mails of many Wichitans Friday, were
. responsible for this work by the two
- little girls. One of the children on
viewing the pitiable pictures of the
J Belgian mothers watching their ema
• clated babes die for want of food broke
* into tears but when it was explained
to her that moneyfrom people in
Wichita Falls would: help those stark-
ing women and children so far away
she put her sympathy into concrete
form, dried her tears and calling her
playmates to her assistance they
started out to help feed the Belgians.
Thry explained to those on whom they
call that ten cents, the price of an ice
cream, or just a little bit of candy,
eaten in a few minutes, will feed one
Belgian baby a whole day, that for $3
a starving child is assured of life for
a whole month and that $35 will pro-
vide food for a whole year for one
child. And they ask that each person
give at least enough to feed one child
one day. And they are not being re-
fused either.
This offers suggestions-as to what
other children in Wichita Falls cau do.
It is a work peculiarly appropriate for
the children of America, this raising
ouey that the t hildrei at ross the sea 1
can have enough food to keep the life
in their body, it. is well enough for the
Rrowuups to raise money, for Reil
Cross work, for ambulances, subscribe
for Liberty bonds and supply money
for recruiting purposes. but all of this
is the work of war and not, of peace
and gentleness which a little: child
typifies. What these little girls have
done can be done by other little girls
and boys.
Mary is the daughter of Mf. and Mrs.
udd Pressley and Dorothy is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Hines.

In appearance, Buick cars unite dignity with a rare original charm. Buick power domi-

Buick builders started on the principle that the Valve-in-Head was the logical power
