R. E. Thomason, a representa-
tive of the San Antonio Express,
spent several days in Alpine the
past week working up a two
page “write-up” for Alpine
and Brewster county which
will be published later in their
Magazine Section. It is expected
that it will be one of the best
things ever gotten out along this
line. Special care will be taken
as to the oil and gas situation.
Mr. Thomason made the Ava-
lanche office a pleasant call last
Saturday afternoon. Call again.
Messrs J. J. Allen, W. F. Col-
lett, Mack Moseley, and Malcom
Patcum returned home Satur-
day from the Chisos Mountains,
but minus the "B'ar Meat” they
went after. They found signs
but no bear.
They—so they say—had the
fortune of getting one deer while
down there, and when on their
way home, about half way,
stumbled onto a bunch from
which they got three or four
more, so were not compelled to
come home empty handed.

The Alpine Mercantile Com-
pany had a new pump put in for
their supply station.
It is a Gilbert & Baker five-
gallon stroke pump of the latest
pattern for giving their cus-
tomers filtered gasoline. It is
a dandy and is surmounted by a
pretty white globe.
W. A. Buchanan, plumber and
tinner installed it, which means
that it was "put up” in proper
shape, and we feel sure that the
Mercantile’s customers will great
ly appreciate the new equip-
ment.

There is a false report in re-
gard to T. B. Hatley’s death
which occurred at Marshall, Tex-
as, last week. Wednesday.
He was taken suddenly ill, and
the first telegram stated that
"he had paralysis” and was very
low. The second was that "he
died from a stroke of appoplexy."
The report that he had been shot
by a negro employee is ab-
solutely false.

Alpine Saturday morning from
San Padro, California. Mr.
Henderson has served his coun-

in need of him at present. The

It’s mighty poor economy to put cheap
tires on your car.
If you can’t depend on your tires, you
can’t depend on your car,

It pays to buy good tires—United States
