UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB SCHWARTZ, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO
ADAM MAURER, OF SAME PLACE.
COMPOSITE LAMP-CHIMNEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,784, dated October 17,1893.
Application filed April 20, 1893. Serial No,471,237. (No model.)To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB SCHWARTZ, a citi-
zen of the United States, residing at San An-
tonio, in the county of Bexar and State of
5 Texas, have invented certain new and useful
Improvements in Composite Lamp-Chimneys,
of which the following is a specification:
According to my invention, I provide an
attachment of an improved construction for
to lamp chimneys, adapted to prevent insects
from falling into the chimney, and to prevent
the flame from rising above the top of the
chimney.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating
15 my invention,-Figure 1 is a perspective view
of a lamp with my improvements applied.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the attachment.
The cylinder A is made of wire gauze, or
other reticulated material, and at the bottom
25 is provided with a perforated sheet metal ring
c. At the top it is provided with an imperfo-
rate cap or cover a, to which is secured a ringb, that may be attached by means of a chain
or other device to the frame of the lamp. The
length of the cylinder is preferably about 25
twice its diameter, the ring c being of proper
interior diameter to fit the chimney to which
the cylinder is to be applied. The chimney
preferably extends a short distance into the
cylinder, and may be made to partially or 30
wholly support it, but I preferably suspend
the'cylinder from the lamp frame as indicated
in Fig. 1.
I claim as my invention-
The combination with a lamp chimney, of 35
a perforated or reticulated cylinder having a
perforated annular sheet metal bottom c, and
an imperforate cap a provided with devices
attaching it to the lamp frame, substantially
as described.
JACOB SCHWARTZ.
