X - Ray Survey—
it
also to hear hia proposals for
organising tht county into • work-
ing unit ao that all peoplt over 15
|MM of mg9 may avail themaelv.*
at this free chest X-ray survey for
tuberculosis rendered by the State
Department of Health.
Mr. Gauss explained that the
ehaat X-ray machine will U locat-
ed in a centra! part of the Caldwell
business district during the five
days the state has scheduled it for
the Burleson county survey and
that the real success of the pro.
gram depends upon the proper
functioning of the county commit-
tees organised to assist in the pro-
gram. Such functions as publicity,
clerical work, provision of a suit-
able building, and creation of in-
terest in having aii people of the
county present themselves for the
survey is a responsibility the coun-
ty itself must assume as the Sute
can furnish only two technicians
who will actually operate the X-
ray machine.
J. Malvin Hare, chairman for the
meeting, appointed the following as
a Selection Committee who in turn
will select the General Chairman
for Burleson County in conducting
the survey: Rufus Conoley, Mrs.
John L. Bell, Judge E. E. Bravenec,
Dr. T. S. Roach, Mrs. L. C. Hud-
son, Jr., Mayor J. L. Pounder,
Mayor Robt. Gstling, Rev. Thomas
Matl, Lee Wolt, Raymond R. No-
vosad, Mrs. Joe Siptak, Wilton
Chaloupka, Waldo E. Dalchau. This
committee will meet Friday, Janu-
ary 27, at 2:16 p. m., in the Cham-
ber of Commerce office to select
the General Chairmin.

tion of the organisation will take
place at a date and place announced
through the medium of this news-
paper and by personal contacts
with reservists in the area who ex-
press an interest in the unit.
Members of the unit who attend
a sufficient number of meetings
per year, and who participate in
the. training offered may earn
credits for promotion and retire-
ment at age 60, Beseda said. Op-
portunities will be wide open for
former Airmen to earn commis-
sions, and only members of such
units will be considered as eligi-
ble for short tours of active duty
which are offered each summer.
Chief among the advantages, Bes-
eda added, is that the reservist who
remains active will not have to
throw himself at the mercy of his
draft board in the event of another
war. He will have maintained his
pioficiency and preserved his rank
and will thuB eliminate much o
the stumbling around which char-
acterized the first few months of
the military careers of many men
during the last war.
Former AF officers and airmen,
former ground force and navy per-
sonnel who do not have present
reserve connections, and men with
no previous experience who can
pi¿ss physical examinations pre-
scribed by AF regulations are elíg-
ele for nvmbership in the unit.
All interested

munity. He hod been a member of
the Masonic Lodge in Caldwell fori
fifty-eight years and was the old-
est living member at the time of
his death. He had expected to take
part in the Centennial celebration
f that organization Tuesday.
He was also the last member jf(
the Phelps family, all of whom {
had lived to a ripe old age.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. T.
L. G. Phelps, hie son, Tommy T.;
his daughter, Mrs. Joe E. Harper,
and five grandchildren, all of
Caldwell.
Funeral services were held ¡it
Harvey-Sthiiler Funeral Chapei at
2 p. m., Monday, with Rev A. Ó.
Broaddus, life-long friend of the
family, officiating. The Masonic
Lodge, A F. & A. M., No. 56, were
in charge of services at the grave-
