Starting a museum is a great deal easier to say than to do.
It has taken many diverse talents: architects, lawyers, de-
signers, artists, researchers, writers, museum directors and
art critics; to say nothing of the business men and women
who have devoted much time to raise the necessary funds
through underwriting and membership.
It has been important that we all have a common purpose
which we attempt here to define:
We will bring to Dallas each year several exhibitions
of top quality contemporary art. This art might come
from Europe, Asia, Milwaukee, or Texas. There will
be no compromising on quality, though there may be
difference of opinion as to what is good or bad. We
intend by exposure to interest a large audience in that
which is best in art in the world today.
Our first Museum is quite small but large enough to prove
our right to live. Recognition of our success should lead us
to a home of sufficient size to house a permanent collection,
a full-time staff and an expanding program. The decision to
open this Museum was momentous. We shall not now hesitate
to make the most of it.
