Safecrackers get $4,000
Local stores burglarized
Two downtown Canadian
stores were burglarized last
night (Wednesday) or early
this morning, safe • crackers
taking between $3,000 and
$4,000 in cash and a quantity
of narcotics.
Safes were robbed at Miller
Food Market and the Canadi-
an Pharmacy. The two firms
are in adjoining buildings on
Main street.
The front door at the Phar-
macy was forced, and the door
of the big safe in the pre-
scription department was rip-
ped off. Owner Gilbert Dick-
ens said more than $3,000 in
cash was taken, plus a quan-
tity of narcotics.
"I don't know exactly what
the narcotic inventory was,"
he said this morning, "but
(hey took it all."
Next door at Miller Food
Market, entry was made
through a hole cut in the roof
at the rear of the store.
Owner Elton Miller said
5S386 in cash was taken from
an unlocked safe in the front
of the store. Checks were loft
scattered on the floor, The
safe, which was not locked,
was undamaged.
The burglars left by the rear
door in both cases . . . sawing
off a padlock in the food store.
The burglaries were discov-
ered at 7:30 o'clock this morn-
ing íThursday) when Elton
Miller arrived at his store to

Thirty-five seniors will get
diplomas tomorrow night

Thirty-five Canadian high
school seniors will receive di-.
plomas tomorrow night (Fri-
day) at annual Commence-
ment Exercises at the Canadi-
an high school auditorium.
An all-student program will
bo climaxed by presentation
of the Liske Cup . . . award-
ed annually to the year's out-
standing liiph school senior.
Name of the Cup winner will
remain a closely-guarded se-
cret until tho moment of pres-
entation. The winner will be
announced by Supt. Woodie
Beene.
Also to be presented at the
ceremony will be the First
National Bank Opportunity
Award, a cash scholarship of-
fered each year to some mem-
ber of the graduating class to
be applied on college enroll-
ment.
Honor students and class
leaders will be featured on the
program, which will begin at
8 p. m. with the processional
march played by the Canadi-
an high school band.
The invocation will be by
Charles Morehead, sergeant-
at-arms of the 1960 graduating
class.
Theme of the program, "Pro-
ject Talent—High School" will
be developed by four speak-
ers: Salutatorian Betty Abra-
ham, Honor Student Carolyn
Sutton, Honor Student Judy
