Other advantages
city (or the rural electric system) saves by being
able to borrow public funds at lower interest rates
than the private sector must come, in the final
analysis, from the taxpayer whose money supports
that government. We think it is an advantage to be
served by a company which pays taxes to our city.

to our school district, to our county and state...one
which pays its way just as the rest of u.i III ülC
private sector do.
That is one big reason why we will vote for
making Southwestern Public Service Company our
Canadian electric company.
A model meeting
LAST THURSDAY Night's "Town Hall Meet-
ing" at Middle School Auditorium was a
model which we hope will be followed in the future
when there are issues of public interest which need
to be explored; and we believe the Citizens for
Action group which arranged it is to be
complimented. So is Mack Sansing who moderated
it.
The meeting was well-attended (more than 200
obviously interested citizens stayed for the entire
two-hour session); it was orderly (the moderator
set the ground rules in the beginning and there
were no problems); it was informative (the
speakers discussing various sides of the power
plant issue stuck to their subjects and spoke for the
most part with clarity and confidence): and it was
open (everyone who wanted to ask questions had
an opportunity to do so and. with a few exceptions,
got to-the-point answers).
The meeting, in other words, developed little
heat and shed a lot of light. It was not "loaded" for
one side or the other, and people who came
obviously to seek clarification got it.
The issue of what to do about the electric power
problem in our city was an important one. and
deserved a lot of calm and rational exploration. We
came away from the meeting Thursday night with
the feeling that it had got just that, and with the
feeling also that the people who were there...
whatever their views on the issue...had been well
informed.
The CFA's goal was to help provide an informed
electorate for a mighty important election. We
compliment them on a job well done.
