Beth Shalom to celebrate
silver anniversary
Judaism is a way of life that is
based upon the sanctification of
time. Human beings mark time by
remembering significant dates that
have impacted their lives. One such
date is the 25th anniversary of the
founding of Beth Shalom Congre-
gation. This au spicious occasion will
be commemorated with a weekend
of events scheduled for Nov. 11-12.
Members have been asked to
complete and return the form sent
out earlier with regards to remem-
bering a significant event and/or
experience that occurred at Beth
Shalom. This will allow the 25th
Anniversary Committee the oppor-
tunity to include your memory in a
Tribute Book that they are busily
preparing. Also keep in mind that
they are asking for your support by
placing a congratulatory announce-
ment in the Tribute Book for as little
as $25.00. This Tribute Bookwillbe

'More than the
Birds and the Bees'
How can you talk to your child
about sexuality in a way that fits
your "family values?" What does
Judaism have to say about sex, and
how can Judaism help along the dis-
cussion? Beth El's Women of
Reform Judaism invites parents and
grandparents to a panel discussion
addressing "More than the Birds
The cast of "Beau Jest"
and the Bees" on Sunday, Oct. 30,
9:45 a.m. to noon in The Great Hall
at Beth-El. The panel of experts
includes pediatrician Dr. Susan
Cohen Mandell, Planned Parent-
hood educator Jackie Bzostek,
school guidance counselor Vivien
Benjamin, social worker Edie Yentis,
and health educator Laurie Jacobs.
These professionals will discuss
what your kids need to know, why,
and when they need to know it.
They will discuss the messages chil-

violist and pianist
Violist Misha Galaganov and
pianist John Owings will present a

Wednesday, Nov.16, at noon at Con-
gregation Beth-El.
Galaganov has performed as a

tria, the USA, and Mexico. His
recitals have been described as
"engaging" (Dallas Morning News)
and "playing with panache" (Los
Angeles Times). His solo perfor-
mance with the TCU Orchestra at
the 2002 Latin American Festival
was named one of the 10 best per-
formances of the year in the
Dallas-Fort Worth area by the Fort

Since making his orchestral debut
with the San Antonio Symphony at
the age of 15, Owings has appeared
as soloist with the symphony
orchestras of Cleveland, Chicago,
Dallas, Denver, Fort Worth,
Houston, the Boston Pops, the Eng-
lish Chamber Orchestra, and the
National Symphony Orchestras of
Colombia and Peru. He has per-
formed recitals in major cities in the
United States, Latin America,
Europe and the Far East and has
been a guest artist at numerous
music festivals.
Both artists are members of the
TCU music faculty where
Galaganov is Assistant Professor of
Viola and Owings holds the
Herndon Professorship of Music. In
1993, the University conferred upon
him its highest award — the Chan-
cellor's Award for Distinguished
Research and Creative Activity —
for his performances of the 32
Beethoven Sonatas.
The Luncheon, which will be
catered by Dianne Young, offers a
choice of tuna or egg salad. Lunch is
$8 per person, or guests may attend
for the program only for $3 per
person.
