Engle School
Election Carried
The good progressive people
of the Engle section held their
school election last Saturday,
May 9tb„ to determine whether
or not that school district would
issue bonds in the sum of $5000.
81 votes were polled, one was
thrown out making the final
count 45 for the bonds and 35
against the bonds, giving a
majority of 10 votes.
The local men there who work-
ed hard for a new school build*
ing are rejoicing in their victory
and the fact that their children
will have a better building to
house them this coming year.
The tax will only be 30c on the
hundred dollar valuation, the
bonds are .figured to run about
10 years.
The new school house will be
erected on the same site where
the present building is standing.
It will be a bungalow of three
rooms, and modern in every de-
tail.
We congratulate the good1 peo-
ple iupon this most excellent
work, nothing better can be
do done.
Engle has an enrollment of 124
students. Miss Lottie Chalk and
Miss Annie Berger have signed
up to teach again next year.
New Telephone Directories
The job department of the
Sticker is this week finishing
new telephone directories for the
Southern „ Telephone Co. for
Schulenburg and this territory.
This we know will be good
news to all telephone subscrib-
ers in this district, as the old
books are getting badly worn,
and many new names have been
added since the last directory
was printed, as has also several
names been dropped from the
list, this of course making it
very inconvenient for both the
Datrons and the operators. The
new books will be complete and
ready for delivery in a very few
days. Thanks to the local man-
agement.

Buss Line Through Here
A new buss line has started
operating through Schulenburg,
it runs from Austin to Houston.
The line is using only big six
Studebaker cars. These cars
are equipped with the biggest
balloon tires that are manufac
tufed.
The line makes headquarters
in our city at Bill Hajek's con
fectionery.
They carry passengers to any
and all stations along the route
charges are very reasonable
The charge from Schulenburg
to Houston is $3.50 this is less
than railroad fare. They carry
one from here to Weimar for
25c, to Sugar Ladd for $2.75.
The charge from here to Austin
is $3.75. Special rates are made
on round trips on the buss.
The cars to Houston leave
Schulenburg at 11.25 a. m. and
for Austin at 4:50 p. m.
This is a valuable addition to
our trasportation service and
one that in time will work up a
nice business.
A new enterprise for Lyons
Avenue is the Cleaning and Pres-
sing Shop recently opened up
just south of the farmers State
Bank. This new shop is owned
and operated by Fink & Stoever.

to all in this section, they will
appreciate all business entrust

Surprise Party
Mrs. Alphonse Herzik was the
recipient of a most pleasant sur-
prise last Friday afternoon when
ber class of seven small boys of
the Methodist Sunday School
tendered her a surprise birthday
party at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John Ammann,
When the honoree arrived she
was met with a smile and pretty
gifts from each manly little fei*
low. This thought of honoring
their Sunday School teacher, on
the part of such youthful minds,
shows how truly she has won
their love by her kindness and
patience with them each Sunday.
The little hosts of this pleas-
ing hospitality were assisted in
serving the guests with delici-
ous refreshments by Mrs. L. J.
I
Peters and Mrs. John Ammann.
This birthday party will be
one of the pleasant memories
that will ever be remembered by
Mrs. Herzik.

LaGrange's Fairest and Finest
—forty strong—will be in Schu-
enburg on Wednesday evening,
May 27th.
They will be seen at the School
Auditorium in that lovely light
opera, "Cherry Blossoms"
or "A Maid from Tokyo',, which
they are presenting on the 50*50
basis for the benefit of their
school and ours.
When we state that this per.
'ormance is under the manage-
ment of Mr. Jake Alexander and
under the direction of Capt.
Schlafii, with Mrs. Schlafli in
the role of "Cherry Blossom",
not much more need be said to
the people of our town, for these
good people and their talent is
too well known here to need any
advertisement. ,
Supported, as they are by, a
cast of LaGrange's well known
and sweet vpiced singers, an
evening of rare pleasure and en
tertainmentis assured.
LaGrange, - with it
organizations of nearly hajf a
century's existence, has develop-
ed its natural talent along these
lines until many of their singers
are equal to those in professional
life.
This operatta has already been
presented in Weimar and the
company has accepted invitations
to play at Brenham, Smitbville
and other places next week.
The.v will play in Schulenburg
at the popular prices of 50 and
25 cents and the Home and
School club is working hard to
fill the house to standing capaci-
ty.

gram of this presentation will be
given In ne*t week's issue of
this paper.

Play Excellents
While the writer was un-
able to attend the play, "Mother
Mine" staged at the High School
Auditorium last Friday night
under the auspices of the Ladies
Aid, presenting an all home
talent cast, we have it from a
number who were present that
it was one of the best local plays
ever presented for the public's
approval in this city. Just sim-
ply tine from start to finish, is
the way one expressed it. Each
member of the cast performing
the part allotted them without a
bobble.
A fairly good house was pres-
ent, something like $105 being
the proceeds, which after all ex-
penses are paid will leave a neat
little sum.
Willie Schwenke
Shot At Engle Sunday
Willie Schwenke of the Engle
section was shot at the dance
there last Sunday night by An-
ton Stavinoha. Anton used a 38
pistol.
We understand that there had
been trouble tor some time be-
tween these parties, reports are
that Anton Stavinoha was called
out on the grounds at a dance
several weeks ago and that Willie
Schwenke and his brother beat
Anton up very badly with some
dubs. This and perhaps other
things lead up the shooting.
Reports of the affair differ, one
is that Anton walked up to the
posts where some men were sit-
ting, one in the crowd was Willie
Schwenke, here reports are dif-
ferent but some say Schwenke
threw his hand back toward his
hip pocket as he did Anton drew
his 38 and fired three shots, only
one took effect, it entering the
left chest and lodged under the
right ribs.
Schwenke was carried to Fla
tonia to a physician Sunday night
following the shooting, next day
he was brought here to Schulen
burg where an X-ray picture was
taken to locate the bullet.
Schwenke is resting well and
will, probably recover.
Anton surrendered to his
brother, Rudolph Stavinoha im-
mediately after the shooting,
Rudolph brought him* to Schu-
lenburg where he made bond in
the sum of $750. In the event
Schwenke should die, he will
have to be rearrested and a dif-
ferent charge filed.
The above is as reported to us
by various parties at Engle at
the time of the shooting.
Two Pretty Homes
Schulenburg will have two
more very attractive homes
shortly, work on one, Rud. See*
bergers home, started this week,
the other K. D. Sengelmann's
home will be starred just as soon
as Seebergers is completed,
Contractor Borchers is to build
both of . them. They will be
Stucco homes with sheet rock
walls inside and every modern
convenience throughout. Both
houses will be alike. Seeberger's
will be located between Chas.
Sengelmann's home and Mr.
Graf's. Klondyke's home will
be located next to his wife's
mother's home.

New Business
Building for Schulenburg
H. P. Schaefer, one of our
most popular and progressive
citizens, has engaged contractor
Frank Bohimann to erect a very
pretty new business building on
his lots where the Schulenburg
Battery Company is now located,
and on his adjoining space.
The new building will be of
hollow tile, with a pretty plate
glass front and cement floors, it
will be 40 ft. front by 60 feet
deep.
The new building will be used
as a display room for the popular
Overland and Willys Knight cars,
and as headquarters for the ever
growing Schulenburg Battery
Company. This building is very
necessary as the Overland Busi-
ness and Battery business has
completely outgrown its present
quarters.
The people are indeed glad to
see this improvement to the
town. The Sticker congratulates
Mr. Schaefer upon his progres
siveness and sincerely hopes
that his business expands unti
even larger quarters will be
necessary.
