The Executive Board of
the Starr County Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary held its
May meeting in the-
Conference Room at the
hospital with Mrs. Dorothy
Anderson, first vice-
president, presiding.
Joseph O'Rourke, Ad-
ministrator of the Starr
County Memorial Hospital,
reported the painting of the
outside of the building is
almost completed. He added
that the Hospital Board has
authorized the installation of
a large storage water tank
behind the hospital which
will increase the water
pressure inside and outside
the hospital, Work on this
project will begin soon.
As soon as a tower can be
erected, the doctors will be
furnished beepers which will
enable the hospital to con-
tact them within a radius of
40 miles. The walkie-talkies
furnished by the Auxiliary
will be used also. The
hospital auxiliary is pur-
chasing two additional
beepers to be used to contact
the laboratory and X-ray
technicians.
Mrs. Anderson, TV
Chairman, reported all
televisions are in operating
condition. Reception will
improve after the antenna
tower is installed. Mrs. Elsie
Butcher, Awards Chairman,
reported that fiteeen
volunteers worked 282 hours,
40 minutes in April. A date of
June 13, was set for an open
meeting to give annual
reports and awards.
Mrs. Daisy Hinojosa, Shop
Chairman, reported sales
increased approximately 22-
over the same period a year
ago. Effort is being made to
increase merchandise.
Mrs. Anderson is in charge
of taking pictures of babies
torn in the hospital. The
picture in a folder is
available at $1.25 each.
New religious literature
placed in the Chapel was
donated by Mr. and Mrs. R.
C. Salinas.
Mrs. Elrna G. Gonzalez
was welcomed back to active
volunteer duty after a year's
absence.
Everyone is invited to
become a volunteer worker
member; a patron member
who is interested in the
Auxiliary but cannot be a
volunteer worker so pays a
$10 dues per year instead; or
a Life Member upon the
payment of $50 membership
dues. Life Member's names
are placed on a plaque in the
hospital lobby. Membership
in the Auxiliary is open to all
persons who are interested .

BANK RECEPTION AND OPEN HOUSE—The
Officers and Directors of the Citizens State Bank of
Roma are shown as they officially opened the bank for
its first day of business on Monday May 15. A formal
reception arid Open House was held on Sunday, May 21,
END-OF-S( HOOL TRIP—First grade students of the
Immaculate Conception School enjoyed an end-of-
school field trip to McAllen on Thursday, May 18.
Accompanied by their teacher Sister Mary de Porras
and by parents, the children went to the movies to see
Pippi Longstocking" and to the park where they
enjoyed lunch and free play. The last day of school for
the ICS students was Friday, May 19.

Volpe, vice-president; Cesar Salinas, secretary; and
Roberto Gutierrez.

Church of Jesus Christ of
letter-Day Saints Chapel in
Rio Grande City on Sunday,
|,'4a> 28. Featherstone is a
member of the First Quorum
of Seventy and is president
of the Texas San Antonio
Mission of the Church of
Jesus Christ of I Fitter-Day
Saints (the Mormons).
The chapel in Rio Grande
City is located on the corner
of Herinosa Drive and High-
way 8.'! behind the Corona's
Drive-In Market. The
Mormon Church is growing
rapidly in this area, and the
visit of the president was a
very special and rare oc-
cassion. All are invited to
attend services at the
chapel.

Florence J. Scott Study Club in a candlelight ceremony

The ceremony was held during the final meeting ot the
dub year held at the home of Mrs. Ross I-aGrange with
Mrs Cummings as co-hostess. Mrs. Javier Margo
gave tfie devotional, and Mrs. Gilberto Garcia was

Commencement Exercises
for Rio Grande City High
School held May 25 at 8:00
p.m. at the Rattler Field.
Salutatorian Diamantina
Bazan, who served as
President of the Senior Class
of 1978, was Mistress of
Ceremonies for the graduat-
ion exercises, with over 200
receiving diplomas.
The Rio Grande City High
School Band played the
processional, and Father
William Nash, O.M.I., led
the Invocation. Presentation
of Colors was made by the
Rio Grande City High School
Future Farmers of America,
followed by the national
anthem played by the band.
Miss Bazan delivered the
Salutatory Address, and the
band played a musical
selection before Juan Carlos
Aguirre delivered the
Valedictory Address.
Certification of Graduates
was made by Dr. A. E.
Garcia, superintendent of
schools, and Jesus A. Solis,
president of the Board of
Trustees, awarded the
diplomas. High School
Principal Ruben Saenz gave
recognition to the parents
preceding the Recessional,
"Ies Golondrinas" by the
band. Father Nash led the
benedication, and the
graduates sang the Alma
Mater.
