commencement program for 117
graduates, including four from

Holds Meetings «
Alpha Sigma Phi Chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi held a regular meeting
recently in the home of Mrs.
Felicia Garza, hostess for the
evening
The business meeting began with
the opening ritual, led by Mrs.
Lydia G. Saenz, chapter president.
Plans for a Thanksgiving social
were reported and discussed by the
social committee members. The
social was held at Fort Ringgold
Motor Inn for members and their
spouses. The other committees
reported on their on-going projects.
Discussion on selection of de-
butantes to be presented at the
Feb. 15 Sweetheart dance was also
on the agenda. Young ladies who
are related to members may be
presented and recognized at the
dance. The meeting was then
adjourned.
Pledge training was led by Mrs
Mary Lou Cruz, vice-president, and
immediately following, the mem-
bers were given a written test by
officers of Alpha Chi Epsilon, the
friendly venture chapter of Rio
Grande City.
The cultural program followed,
and Mrs. Felicia Garza introduced
the guest speaker for the evening
Ms. Linda Brown of Brown and
Ruiz Advertising in McAllen, Texas
spoke on the selected program:
Lives Of Purpose She defined the
purpose of advertising, which is to
inform, entertain and motivate the
public to buy a particular product
or mold their attitude about a
particular service. The creative
process was also discussed
This is the process by which their
agency go about creating ideas for
advertising campaigns. The pro-
cess can take as long as three days
to a week. Members viewed the
actual T.V. commercials that Ms
Brown and Mrs. Ruiz have devised
for various channels on video
Following the enlightening pro
gram, members and guests joined
hands and repeated the clos
ritual.
Afterwards, they enjoyed^
original Mexican cabrito dim
and all the trimmings prepare®
hostess Mrs. Garza. Members ^
also invited to examine select
items for sale by Ms. Brown 1
her associate. ^
