Class of '57 Observes 30th Anniversary

The Class of '57 of Rio Grande
City High School observed its 30th
anniversary recently at a Rio
Grande City motel.
The registration was held at 3
p.m. on July 4. The class then
attended Mass at Immaculate
Conception Church at 5 p.m., with
members of the class participating.
Afterwards, the members of the
class returned for a social hour,
and later enjoyed a buffet dinner
The program began with the
invocation by Father Norman
Racette. Virginia G. Guzman led
her classmates in the Pledge of
Allegiance, and Roque Guerra, Jr.,
led the class in the Alma Mater.
Yolanda C. Leal, mistress of
ceremonies, introduced the honored
guests, and the members of the
class introduced their guests. Dr.
Alberto H. Gutierrez, Jr., wel-
comed all his classmates, and Dr.
Rolando Chavez gave the response.
The Class of '57 honored their
teachers and class mothers as
special guests at their reunion.

The class voted for these mem-

farthest, Edna H. Sztuk; The one
with the most grandchildren, An-
nette Watson; The girl who
changed the least, Flerida C.
Guerra; The boy with the least
hair, Ray Lund
Ramona C. Olivarez said a
special prayer in memory of the
following deceased classmates:
Maria Celia A. Moser, Ramiro
Guerrero, Nieves Balderas, Arturo
Ramirez, Ruben Mendoza, and
Erasmo G.Garcia.
Special recognition was given to
the following members of the
organizing committee for their
hard work and effort: Dora G.
Gonzalez, Imelda Carrera, Yolanda
C. Leal, Rafaela B. Olivarez,
Ramona C. Olivares, Virginia G
Guzman, Flerida C. Guerra, and
Alicia 0. Saenz.

ers voted to ratify a letter
authorizing the County Auditor to
make out a check to the Fireman's
Training School at Texas A&M
University in College Station for
the training of firemen from the
Rio Grande City Volunteer Fire
Department earlier this year.
Starr County 4-H'ers Linda
Guerra and Ysa Gonzalez were
competitors at the recent State
Roundup at Texas A&M University
in College Station.
The title of their presentation
was "How to Garnish." They
competed in the Horticulture and
Preparation and Use category
placing ninth against teams from
throughout Texas.
Both 1 H'ers are members of the
Rio 4 H Club. Their parents are
