Month proclaimed
County Judge J.M. Martinez, Jr,
has proclaimed May 1992 as Child
Abuse Prevention Month in Stan-
County.
The proclamation, signed by
Judge Martinez, on April 28, reads
as follows:
"WHEREAS, the problem of
child abase and neglect affects many
of StarT County's children; and
"WHEREAS, child abuse and
neglect is a complex and growing
problem in our county, state and
nation; and
"WHEREAS, preventing child
abuse and neglect is the
responsibility of all citizens; and
"WHEREAS, dedicated child
protective service workers with the
Texas Department of Human
Services have worked diligently lo
provide protection and service to
children in an effort to prevent
further child abuse or neglect; and
'WHEREAS, The Starr County
Child Welfare Board, the National
Committee for Prevention of Child
Abuse, and other individuals and
local community groups arc
dedicated to ihe goal of combating
and preventing child abuse and
neglect; and
"WHEREAS, every child iv
entitled to be loved, cared lor
nurtured, and to feel sccurc; and
"WHEREAS, community action
is needed to help families break the
cycle of abuse and improve famiK
