Roman Bazan
Ringgold Elementary School
5th six weeks honor roll
Roman Bazan, 46, of La Casita
died Tuesday, May 14 at the
McAUen Heart Hospital in
Mc Allen.
He is survived by his wife,
Sylvia P. Bazan of La Casita; two
sons. Tommy (Nereida G.) Bazan
and Roy Bazan, both of La Casita;
four brothers, Eliberto Bazan of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Joseph
Anthony Bazan of California,
Eliazar Bazan of Oklahoma, and
Jeronimo Bazan of La Casita; eight
sisters, Guadalupe B. Solis of La
Victoria Ranch, Vicenta B. Perez of
Mission, Maria Angelica B. Range 1
of La Joya, Adriana Bazan of
Edinburg, San Juana Gomez of
Illinois, Margarita Cardenas,
Rebecca Sanchez both of
Washington and Estella Carico of
California; two grandchildren,
Brandy Marie Bazan and Ryan
Harley Bazan, both of La Casita.
Visitation began Wednesday,
May 15 at 5 p.m. with a rosary at 7
p.m. Funeral Mass took place
Thursday, May 16 at 4 p.m. at Our
Lady of Peace Catholic Church of
La Casita. Burial followed at the La
Casita Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under
the direction of Sanchez Funeral
Home of Rio Grande City.
Manuel Garcia
Manuel Garcia, 84, of Falcon
died Thursday, May 16 at Stan-
County Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Celia
C. Garcia of Falcon; three sons,
Manuel Eugenio Garcia and Mario
Sergio Garcia, both of Mc Allen,
Alfonso Elizalde of San Antonio;
five daughters, Cristina G. Herrera
of San Antonio, Estella G. Palacios
and Maria Del Carmen Pena both of
McAllen, Elizabeth G. Egolf of
Austin and Rosario Barrera of
Falcon; one brother, Eduardo Garcia
of Harlingen; one sister, Estella
Delgado of San Antonio; 18
grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Visitation began Thursday, May
16 at 5 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30
p.m. Funeral Mass was said Friday,
May 17 at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of
Refuge Catholic Church in Roma.
Burial followed at the Salineno
Cemetery in Salineno.
Funeral arrangements were under
the direction of Sanchez Funeral
Home of Rio Grande City.
Cynthia Leal
Cynthia Leal, 21, of Escobares,
died Monday, May 13 at Starr
County Memorial Hospital after
injuries sustained in an automobile
accident
She is survived by both her
parents, Rolando and Leonila S.
Leal, both of Escobares; one
brother, Rolando Leal of Escobares;
one sister, Claudia Lizette Leal of
Escobares; her maternal
grandmother, Margarita Saenz, also
of Escobares.
Visitation began Tuesday, May
14 at 2 p.m. at the VFW Hall of
Roma with a rosary at 5 p.m.
Funeral Mass took place on
Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. A
blessing was given on Wednesday,
May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church of
Escobares. Burial followed at the
Escobares Cemetery.

Watermelon
Fiesta Pageant
Sunday night
San Isidro's second annual
Watermelon Fiesta Pageant will
take place this Sunday, June 2 at
7:30 p.m. at the San Isidro High ^
School Auditorium.
The following seven divisions
will be featured at the pageant:
INFANT MISS, 0-11 months;
BABY MISS, 1-2 years; TINY
MISS, 3-4 years; LITTLE MISS,
5-7 years; PETITE MISS, 8-11
years; TEEN MISS, 12-14 years;
MISS, 15-20 years. 5
The top five winners for each
category will be awarded trophies.
Contestants will make one
appearance in party dress.
The deadline for applications will
be Friday, May 31. The rehearsal
date will be Friday, May 31 at 7
p.m. at the Auditorium.
Judging will be based on poise,
personality, and beauty. Selection
will be made by a panel of three ^
judges. These judges will be from
other cities outside of San Isidro.
An entry form provided by the
Watermelon Fiesta Committee
must be submitted to enter a
contestant in the pageant. There
will be a $20 entry fee which must
be submitted with the entry. A
sponsor may be an individual, f
parents, business, or yotith
