Ribboncutting held for Holiday Inn Express
A ribboncutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, Aug. 16 for the Holiday Inn Express Hotel on
U.S. Highway 83 on the far eastern side of Rio Grande City. The 68-room hotel has been .-ij-jn since
February 2006. At the ceremony, hotel management donated $1000 to the Starr County Industrial
Foundation to support business development in the community. Rio Grande City Mayor Kevin Hilcs
is pictured helping cut the ribbon. The hotel offers a number of executive suites and a presidential
suite. The conference room is available for rental to the public for community meetings A workout
center and a swimming pool is available for hotel guests.

Scholars is an academic
excellence scholarship program
providing leadership and

scholarship program, students

students receive
shopping spree
RGCCISD News Release
On Aug. 10, 2006, six Rio
Grande City CISD students
received a $150 shopping spree
provided by the United Way of
South Texas and Target at Las
Tiendas Shopping Center. This
is the tenth year the Back-To-
School "In Style" shopping
event has taken place to benefit
the children in the area.
The United Way provided
each student with a gift card to
shop for their school attire and
personal hygiene items. Several
Shopping Buddies were
recruited to help students with
their selection of appropriate
merchandise.
Johnny Appleseed (whose real
name was Jonathan Chapman)
was an American pioneer who
planted large numbers of apple
trees along the frontier in the late
eighteenth and early nineteenth
centuries.
