The Rio Grande City CISD
hosted the new teacher
orientation on August 8, 2006 at
7:30 a.m. in the Multipurpose
Center. Board members and
community members along with
the 88 new teachers were in
attendance.
Teac'iers were also given a
historical tour of the Fort
Ringgold grounds and all the
schools throughout the district.
The tour was conducted by local
historians R.C. Salinas and
Samuel Ramos.
The Master of Ceremonies for
this event was Mr. Gilberto E.
Garcia. Assistant Superintendent
for Human Resources. The
group was welcomed by Mr.
Roel A. Gonzalez
(Superintendent) and Mr.
Basilio D. Villarreal, Jr. (School
Board President).
Villarreal welcomed the new
teachers and gave them a
special message. "On behalf of
the RGCCISD and community,
let me welcome you! Welcome
to a school district that is on the
move. In this district children do
come first, they are paramount
and what you do today will be
alive for many years to come,"
said Villarreal.
Gonzalez had the following
words to say to all new teachers
for 2006-2007 coinciding with
the theme of the event. "Only in

to work, to the mall, to the

County okays separate
pending forfeiture accounts
JROTC takes part in ceremony for new H-E-B
The Rio Grande City High School Junior ROTC participated in the grand opening ceremony (or the
new H-E-B plus! store in Rio Grande City on Thursday evening, Aug. 3. The new store, located at
4031 East Highway 83, will be approximately three times the size of the former H-E B store. The
new store will feature more than 40,000 new items and employ more than 600 Partners.
RGCCISD hosts 'A Salute for
Teachers' Orientation for 2006-2007
At their special meeting on
Monday morning, July 31, the
County Commissioners
approved a separate account for
pending federal forfeiture
monies.
The agenda item read as
follows: "Discuss and take
action on request from District
Attorney Heriberto Silva for all
Pending Federal Forfeiture
Monies be separate and apart
from all other Forfeited
monies."
County Auditor Rosalinda G.
Guerra stated, "The pending
federal forfeiture fund is kept
separate from other pending
forfeiture funds."
Assistant District Attorney
Omar Escobar emphasized, "We
have to be extremely careful
with federal funds. We're asking
that pending federal forfeiture
funds be separate. These need to
be kept separate from pending
state forfeiture funds."
County Judge Eloy Vera
suggested, "More forfeiture
funds are possible with the
increase in seizures." Escobar
stressed, "Chapter 59 is what
guides the distribution of funds."
Auditor Guerra explained. "They
want a separate pending (federal)
forfeiture fund (account)."
The commissioners then
approved the separate account for
pending federal forfeiture funds
as requested.
The commissioners approved
a motion that authorized Judge
Vera, pending approval by the
County Attorney, to sign a
contract with the Department ot
State Health Services for the
Remote Vital Records System
in the County Clerk's Office
County Clerk Dennis
Gonzalez explained, "Through
the Remote System we have, we
can issue birth certificates and
other documents via the Internet
throughout the state. It's $1.83
per document."

South Texas College will
host a Registration Rave party at
its Pecan Campus in McAllen
from Friday, Aug. 25 through
Saturday, Aug, 26. The
festivities kick off at 5 p.m. on
the 25th and go all night until
noon the next day on the 26th.
Throughout the event there
will be free food, prizes, gifts
and fun activities for the entire
family. Everyone attending the
STC Registration Rave party
will receive a free tee-shirt.

football

Pee Wee football is coming
to Rio Grande City.
Community Action Council
of South Texas is looking for a
few good coaches to volunteer
their time to the game.

Teams will be organized
from the Rio Grande City
School District's fourth, fifth,
and sixth grades for competition
scheduled to begin in October.
The players will be recruited at a
later date.

live music, rock climbing,
obstacle courses, a laser lights
show, contests, and a variety of
other activities.
Students will be able to
register for financial aid and fall

process of registering for the fall
session, which starts on Aug. 29.
Representatives from the
Student Life Office will also be
available to answer questions
about college life and activities
at STC.
"There is still time to get into
college for the fall 2006
semester and we are throwing
this all-night party to provide
students the opportunity to come
see the campus and talk to us in
a fun and festive atmosphere,"
said William Serrata. vice
president for student services
and development for STC. "We
will have something for the
entire family and hope that those
interested in college, but not
sure about their options, will
take the time to come by, get a
free tee-shirt and gift, some free
food and learn what STC can do
to change their lives at any time
of the day or night!"
