Traveler talks ride
from California to
A traveler who rode by horse
from California to the Rio Grande
Valley last year indicates that he is
making his home in Rio Grande
City for the time being,
emphasizing that a movie and book
are being planned in the near future
to discuss his journey and also
South Texas history of the distant
past.
Andy Martinez told The Rio
Grande Herald on Friday, Jan. 23,
"Until I finish my movies, my
videos and my book, I'll be residing
in Rio Grande City...! think God
sent me to fulfill a prophecy."
Martinez traveled from
Livingston, California to the Rio
Grande Valley over almost a three-
month period that began in
February 2003 and concluded in
May 2003. During his early May
2003 stop in Rio Grande City, he
indicated, "I've been involved in
this for 71 days. I've been resting
here for more than five days."
Martinez added on May 5, 2003,
"I hope to make it to Porcion 93
tonight. I'll get down, make a
prayer, and put a sword in the
ground. My starting point was the
Catholic Church in Livingston,
California, located near Modesto. It
is located in Mercedes County."
"I was born in Benavides, Texas,"
Martinez noted last week. "I grew
up in California after leaving Texas
at age 16."
He indicated that the movie "will
be called 'Zorro Tejano'. We're
trying to get Robert Rodriguez of
MGM, a Rio Grande City native,
to produce it. We may get Lazos
Production of Roma to produce it."
Martinez explained that Jesse
Galvan, Jr., an author from Corpus
Christi, is writing a book titled "El
Libro Juan Diego" on his behalf.
He added, "The book could be
finished by the end of the year. The
book talks about the king (Philip
of Spain), Juan Diego, myself, and
my family. The book will explain
how I came from the past to the
present."
"Basically, I say in the book that
I'm descended from King Philip V
and Juan Diego," stated Martinez.
"Juan Diego left Texas in the mid-
1800's. He was the one the king
gave the porciones to (93, 94 and
95). That king gave 433 land
grants."
He commented, "The book talks
about an untold legend. In the
book, I explain the true version.
Now, the Spanish flag will rise
again."
"The book will explain how I
made history in Rio Grande City,
about my journey from California
to the Valley," continued Martinez.
Martinez explained. "There will
be three parts to the movie. There
will be three movies - Part One,
Part Two and Part Three...I plan to
work on the movie in the coming
months. I want everything original,
based on truth."
"I intend to donate all monies
from the movie to charity for poor
people in the Valley," he
emphasized. "My goal is to help
the poor people. With that money,
they can make shelters for the
homeless people and make centers
for drug rehab. The monies will
also help restore historic
buildings."
Martinez stressed last week, "I
want to help as many people as I
can while I'm on earth."
Martinez declared last May that "I
had a major heart attack on Jan. 20,
2003. I had a stint installed on my
main valve. When I 'died', I came
in contact with three angels. Father
Harold interpreted the dream for me
and said the three angels symbolized
the Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
the Angels of the Trinity. A saint
on the side said it wasn't my time.
All the angels told me I would have
different visions."
"I had visions near a tree of the
Virgin Mary and Saint San
Miguel," recalled Martinez last
May. "About 100 persons from the
church came to see the visions. The
angels told me I had a prophecy to
fulfill, to place a sword in Porcion
93. The sword belongs to Alon/o
on horse
Valley
Longoria. He was a knight for the
Spanish army."
He e\plained. "Porcion 93 starts
just past the (eastern) edge of town
and goes all the way to La Grulla.
The angels gave me thai as a task." '
Martinez emphasized last spring.
"I feel God gave me a second chance
in life — to fulfill a prophecy that
was meant to be done. I was not a
true believer before. 1 had never
gone to church."
He continued, "A lady named
Lupita came to Father Harold,
saying she had had visions at night
of a man riding to Texas on a
horse. She couldn't sleep at night
for three months. A man in Fresno.
California had three visions. I never
had met these people. The lady
explained her visions to me. I
started the journey on Feb. 10.
2003."
Martinez indicated in May.
"We've lost four horses (on the
journey); one young boy had to
drop out because of three broken
ribs. He was representing the Aztec
Indians."
Martinez stated last week. "My
doctor warned me against the trip
from California to Texas last year."
"A historical monument is made
of my great-great grandfather, Juan
Diego," declared Martinez. "The
sword belonged to Alonzo
Longoria, a Spanish knight."
Martinez indicated that during his
time in Rio Grande City, he has
spoken to local schools on several
occasions. He said he is thankful
for having "the opportunity to leave
a legacy behind for the poor
people."
Martinez noted that "I will be 58
on Jan. 27. 2004. When I fulfill
my tasks, I will ride my horse into
the desert and disappear."
Martinez pointed out that Jesse
Galvan, Jr., has written a very
recent book titled "The Way Back."
"I wanted to present the sword to
President Bush," he slated "I hope-
to present it at a later date."
