An Act changing the name of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas
to "Texas A & M University"; changing the name of the Texas Agricultural
and Mechanical College System to "The Texas A & M University System";
and declaring an emergency.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Texas:
Section 1. The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, as it
is now known, shall be known hereafter as and shall operate under the
name of "Texas A & M University."
Sec. 2. The Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College System, as it
is now known, shall be known hereafter as and shall operate under the
name of "The Texas A & M University System."
Sec. 3. Wherever the names "Agricultural and Mechanical College
of Texas" and "Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College System" ap-
pear in other Statutes, the names "Texas A & M University" and "The
Texas A & M University System" shall not affect any previous authoriza-
tion and obligation thereunder and such new names shall be substituted.
Sec. 4. The fact that it would be to the immediate administrative and
other advantages of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, as
renamed herein, and the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College Sys-
tem, as renamed herein, and the further fact that the Agricultural and
Mechanical College of Texas, as renamed herein, has attained university
status, create an emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
Constitutional Rule requiring bills to be read on three several days in each
House be suspended, and this Rule is hereby suspended, and that this Act
take effect and be in force from and after its passage, and it is so enacted.
Passed the House, May 3, 1963, by a non-record vote; passed the Senate,
May 7, 1963, by a viva-voce vote.
Approved May 14, 1963.
Effective 90 days after May 24, 1963, date of adjournment.
