62nd LEGISLATURE-2nd CALLED SESSION
RESOLVED, By the Senate of the State of Texas, the House of Repre-
sentatives concurring, that the 62nd Legislature, 2nd Called Session,
hereby honor the life and sacrifice of Truxton J. Hathaway, Jr., a man
who died as he had lived in service to others; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That official copies of this Resolution be prepared for
his wife Marjorie, and other members of the immediate family of Truxton
J. Hathaway, Jr., as a token of the respect and esteem of the Texas
Legislature for the countless services he performed for his fellow Texans
during his ten years of public service.
Adopted by the Senate on March 29, 1972, by a rising vote; adopted
by the House on March 29, 1972, by a rising vote.

MEMORIAL-DELBERT LEROY ATKINSON
S. C. R. No. 16
WHEREAS, Citizens of Pasadena and of the State of Texas were
greatly saddened by the loss of one of their most beloved and distinguish-
ed fellow citizens in the passing on Friday, November 19, 1971, of Delbert
Leroy Atkinson, former Pasadena mayor, civic and industrial leader for
several decades; and
WHEREAS, Born on September 5, 1903, at Genoa, Mr. Atkinson re-
ceived his early education in the Genoa and Pasadena schools before
graduating from Harrisburg High School in 1921; he later attended the
University of Houston Law School at night and took a bachelor of laws
degree in 1931; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Atkinson retired in 1968 as vice-president of produc-
tion and employee relations at Petro-Tex Chemical Corporation; he began
his service with Petro-Tex and its predecessors in 1922 at the refinery at
Galena-Signal Oil Company; he went to work for Crown Central Petro-
leum in 1927 and later joined Sinclair Oil Corporation where he worked
until 1943, when he became manager of employee relations for Sinclair
Rubber, Inc., in a new plant built to manufacture raw materials to be
used in manufacturing synthetic rubber for war and defense purposes;
and
WHEREAS, In 1955, when Sinclair Rubber, Inc. changed its name to
Petro-Tex, he became manager of employee and public relations and later
became plant manager and then vice-president, the position he held at
the time of his retirement; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished citizen served on the first tax equaliza-
tion board for the Pasadena school system and on that city's tax equaliza-
tion board before being elected to the Pasadena school board, on which
he served from 1934 until 1939; and
WHEREAS, Elected mayor of Pasadena in 1939, Mr. Atkinson led the
city into the boom that started Pasadena's growth and progress as one
of the State's leading cities; he worked many long hours to provide
housing and city services for the many shipyard workers who made their
homes in Pasadena during the wartime period in which he served as
mayor; and
WHEREAS, After his service to the citizens of Pasadena as mayor,
this great gentleman continued to work for his community and its citi-
