The World of Donald Vogel
This is the story about living with and for art. A story written about the
dreams of a young man who gave all to become a painter and to foster
interest in a young community as to the importance and value of the
visual arts.
He entered his chosen city in 1942 when the second great war was under-
way, finding it all but silent. It is a personal history sharing his involvement
with the Little Theatre, the symphony, ballet, opera and the Dallas Museum
of Fine Art. Creating a commercial art gallery that brought both national
and international major art that offered collectors the best in painting,
sculptures, prints and drawings. He tells stories of frauds, fakes, thefts,
collectors, exhibitions, artists, successes and failures. He tells of the
building of Valley House, a gallery and garden that enjoys an international
reputation, an oasis that inspires and comforts all who visit.
