Office of the Secretary

South Bend, Indiana
December 3, 1935.
To Members of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
Dear Colleague:
Since the Atlantic City meeting of the Society, your officers and committees have
spared no effort to carry on its affairs in the usual fine spirit of cooperation.
In addition to the routine business, two new projects this year have required
attention, viz., the certification project and the publishing of "Approved Labor-
atory Methods." The Seminar will be more closely integrated with the annual meet-
ing than heretofore. These and other subjects will be discussed more fully below,
Because there were many problems requiring immediate consideration, your Executive
Committee met in executive session with the president and secretary-treasurer of
the Society on November 20, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri.
During this meeting the preliminary draft of a constitution and by-laws under which
the Certifying Board will incorporate and function was approved. The joint com-
mittee from the section on Pathology and Physiology of the A.M.A. and that from
our membership will proceed to incorporate and should be ready to function in
1936,
Plans submitted by the editor for publishing our new book "Approved Laboratory
Methods" were thoroughly studied and discussed. Suggestions and changes were
made wherever it seemed that the interests of the Society, as a whole, would be
better served, hoping thereby to make the book truly representative and accept-
able. It will be practically rewritten and several new features added. Be sure
to save a place in your budget for the acquisition of this book when it is ready
in 1936.
Our next Seminar (May 6th and 7th) has been arranged for two days immediately pre-
ceding the dates of the annual meeting (May 8th, 9th, and 10th). One day will
be devoted to Hematology under the leadership of Dr. Hal Downey. The other day
will be devoted to the study of tumors under the direction of Dr. R. L. Jaffe. A
more detailed announcement of the seminars will be sent to you later. Strictly
speaking, the seminar is not a part and parcel of the annual meeting, hence a
nominal assessment covering the actual cost thereof will have to be paid by each
registrant.
The Chairman of the Public Relations Committee made an interesting and construc-
tive report at St. Louis. He emphasized the point that our big problems are not
national in scope, but rather state and local situations requiring an active ex-
change of ideas and remedies. The advisory Committee to the Public Health Ser-
vice, in the development of a comprehensive program against venereal disease, has
invited suggestions from among our membership.
Plans for the 1936 meeting are now well underway. The annual meeting will be held
in Kansas City, Missouri, May 8th, 9th, and 10th. May 8th and 9th will be de-
voted to the usual general program. Friday night will be devoted to the round
table discussion and Saturday night, to the annual banquet. Sunday night will be
our annual business meeting. Further notice of the program for the meeting will
be included in our next circular letter.
