Senior Interview Day
unique to Nolan County
The Texas Midwest Economic Development Alliance
met in Anson on March 7, for their spring meet-
ing. One of the purposes of the Alliance is to bring
educational topics and information to Alliance mem-
bers. Approximately 35 cities were in attendance.
A featured topic of the day was presented by Kirstin
Smith and Ken Becker, with Sweetwater Enterprise
for Economic Development (SEED) who explained the
Speakers Bureau and Senior Interview Day conducted in
Nolan County to prepare the future workforce.
Other topics offered on the agenda were a Site Locator's
Perspective by Mark Darce, Site Location Partnership;
Work Ready Community Initiative explained by Carolyn
Jergins, WCT Workforce Solutions; and an update on
the new CEDS Website Tool given by Kristin Wright,
West Central Texas Council of Governments.
The next meeting of the Economic Development
Alliance is Aug. 8, in Brownwood.

Women's Forum ladies
The County-City Library continues to be a vital part of
the community and the number of patrons continues to
grow and every part of the library is used on a regular basis
to serve the people of the community.
The County-City Library offers individuals and families
opportunities for recreational as well as educational read-
ing. The library has nine public computers with internet
access along with wireless service. Some of the program
offered at the library are a weekly adult literacy/ESL lass,
weekly story time for parents and children, the summer
reading program, author book programs and writing work-
shops. The library staff visits several daycares and Hoyt
House each month to read. The library's catalog is available
through the library's website along with their new eBook
and downloadable audiobook service.
The state's library funding was cut by 64 percent this
year. This means that the library has lost its annual state
grant of over $5,000, all technology support and the Big
Country Library System office will close in August. The
County-City Library has been a part of the BCLS for over
50 years. All help and support will be lost from their staff
with their closing.
The Woman's Forum has sponsored Library Tag Day to
support the County-City Library and its programs for over
60 years. Last year, with the help of businesses and profes-
sional people in the community, the Woman's Forum was
able to raise close to $4,000. The money has been used
for summer reading program supplies, children books and
annual subscription to the eBook program.
The 2012 Library Tag Day will be held Wednesday,
April 4. The County-City Library will also be hosting the
Chamber Coffee.
Those wishing to make a tax-deductible donation can
mail it to Library Tag Day, c/o County-City Library, 206
Elm Street, Sweetwater. TX 79556. Those wishing to
donate may also the library at 235-4978 to have a Woman's
Forum representative come by your place of business to
collect a donation.
TSTC to host
college preview
The Sweetwater Campus of Texas
State Technical College West Texas will
host a College Preview and Open H ouse
on Saturday, April 14. The event, held
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to the
public. TSTC West Texas advisors will
lead prospective students on a cam-
pus tour where they will meet the col-
lege's top-notch faculty and have the
opportunity to check out first-hand the
brand-new automotive alternative fuel
trainers current students are using, as
well as the wind turbine drive train the
Wind Technology students train on.
"Here at TSTC West Texas, we are
proud to provide our students with
more hands-on training than any other
college in the area," said event organiz-
ers.
During the tour of the culinary facility,
Chef Coby will share all he has in store
for the new Food Service Technology
program and continuing education culi-
nary classes open to the public as well.
Interested in nursing? Those attend-
ing will get to see current nursing stu-
dents in action in the state-of-the-art
simulation labs. "Hands-on training
has never been better."
In addition to tours of the facilities,
the Career Services department will be
on hand to meet attendants and talk
jobs. "These folks will help you get the
job you want upon graduation."
Financial aid, Admissions and
Veterans Advisors will also be available
to answer questions.

Texas State Technical College West
Texas (westtexas.tstc.edu) is part of the
Texas State Technical College System
(www.tstc.edu) which consists of four
technical schools: TSTC Harlingen,
TSTC M arshall, TSTC Waco, and TSTC
West Texas. TSTC West Texas has
campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge,
Brownwood, and Sweetwater. TSTC is
a co-educational two-year institution
of higher education offering courses
in technical-vocational education for
which there is a demand within the
State of Texas.

set for April 4
SNYDER - The Texas
AgriLife Extension Service
will conduct the annu-
al multi-county "Lower
Rolling Plains Agricultural
Conference" from 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
April 4, at the Scurry
Coliseum, 900 E. Coliseum
Drive in Snyder.
"'The conference will
cover all the important top-
ics facing our area's agricul-
tural producers in the sea-
son ahead," said Zachary
Wilcox, AgriLife Extension
agent in Nolan County.
"The topics will range all
the way from cotton eco-
nomics to dealing with
feral hogs and everything
in between," he said. "As
in years past, AgriLife
Extension agents in the
participating counties have
made every effort to iden-
tify the information pro-
ducers not only want, but
actually need. Though the
program curriculum deals
with our immediate area,
much of the information is
applicable almost anywhere
in Texas."
Morning topics will
include: cotton and grain
economics, laws and regu-
lations, weed resistance to
herbicides and the weather
cycle outlook.
Following a catered
lunch, the program will
split into concurrent ses-
sions A and B.
Session A presentations
will be: Water Quality
Effects on Herbicide; Deep
Sampling of Nitrogen and
Variety Trial Results; Grain
Sorghum Production;
and Integrated Pest
Management Update.
Session B presentations
will include talks on: Cow
Herd Management, Weed
and Brush Control in
Range and Pastures; Feral
Hogs, the Good, Bad and
Ugly; Forage Sorghums,
and Vaccination/
Trichomoniasis Update.
Seven Texas Department
of Agriculture continu-
ing education units will be
offered, five in the general
category, one in laws and
regulations, and one in inte-
grated pest management.
Individual registration for
the Ag Conference is $20
at the door and includes
lunch.
