It is greatly to be deplored that a large majority
of Insurance Companies take advantage of the mis-
fortunes of such of their policy holders who, through
adverse circumstances, sometimes fail to pay their
premiums, by forfeiting the amount already paid.
Such a palpable injustice, it is hoped, will soon be
abandoned By the companies that practice it The
Atlas Mutual Life will have done more to bring
about such a consummation than all the laws which
could be enacted on the subject, because it has origi-
nated a system by which the policy holder cannot
le?e what he has paid, under any circumstances. All
Policies issued by the "Atlas," no matter on what

The Atlas Mutual Life makes its investments on

mense advantage over companies located in the
Bast i
Insurance Companies in most of the older States
are not allowed, according to the terms of their char-
ters. to loan money outside the State in which they
are organized, and it is well known that in those
States tluit 5 or 6 per cent is the utmost that can be
had on money. In order to show how this affects
policy holders, we must snppose that a person aged
40 Insures in the Atlas for $10,000 on the Life plan,
givingja single premium of $5 102 Oo. The expecta-
tion oi life at that age is 27 years.

DR. JOHN BULL,
MANUFACTURER AND VENDER OF THE
CELEBRATED
SMITH'S TONIC SYRUP
• FOR THE CURE'OF j
AGUE AND FEVER
Chills ana Fever.
T\
he proprietor of this celebrated medicine justly
clainls for it a superiority over all remedies eyer
offered to the public for th9 safe certain, speedy and
permanent cure of Ague and Fever, or Chills and
tfevef, whether of short or long standing. He Refers
to the entire Western and Southwe-teru country to
bear him testimony to the truth of the assertion that
in no case whatever will it fail to cure, if the direc
tions are strictly followed and carried out. In i
great many cases a single dose has been sufficient for
a cure, and whole families have been cored by a single
bottle, with a perfect restoration of the general
health. It is however prudent, and in every case
moire certain to cure if its use is continued in smaller
doses for a week or two after the disease has been
checked, more especially in difficult and long stand-
ing cases. Usually this medicine will not require any
aid to keep the bowels in good order; should the
patfent, however, require a caihartic medicine, after
having taken three or four doses of the Tonic, a
single dose of BULL'S VEGETABLE FAMILY
PILLS will be sufficient.

To My United Stales d> World Wide Header
1HAVE received many teftimonials from profes-
fessional and medical men, as my almanacs and
various publications have shown, all of which are
genuine. The following from a highly educated and
popular physician in Georgia, is certainly one of the
most sensible communications I have ever deceived.
Dr. Clement knows exactly what he speaks of, and his
testimony deserves to be written in let'ers of gold.
Hear what the Doctor says of BULL'S WORM DES-
TROYER:
Villanow, Walker County, Ga.
June 29,1866.
Dr. John Bull—Dear Sit: I have recently given
your '• Worm Destroyer" several trials, and find it
wonde r it Inefficacious. Ithasnot failed in a single
instance to have the wished for effect. 1 am doing a
pretty large country practice, and have daily use for
some article of the kind. I am free to confess that I
know of no pemedy recommended by the ablest au-
thors that is so certain and 4peedy in its effects. On
the eontrary hey are uncertain in the extreme. My
object in writing you is to find out upon what terms I
can get the medicine directly from you. If I can get
it upon easy terms, I shall use a great deal of it. I
am aware that the use of such articles is contrary
to the teachings and practice Of a] great majority of
the regular line of M D's, but I see no just cause or
good sense in discarding a remedy which we know to
be efficient, simply because we may be ignorant of its
combination. For my part, I shall make it a rule to
use all and any means to alleviate suffering humanity
which I may be able to command—not hesitating
because some one more ingenious that myself may
have learned its effects first, and secured the sole
right to secure that knowledge. However, I am by
no means an advocate or supporter ot the thousands
of worthless nostrums that flood the country, that
purport to cure all manner of diseases to which hu-
man flesh is heir. Please reply soon and Inform m
of your best terms.
I am, sir, most respectfully,

CAPT. 0- P. JOHNSON,

P. S.—The following was written April 30, 1865, by
Mrs. Jennie Johnson, mother o' Capt Johnson:
Dr. John Bull—Dear Sir: My husband. Dr. C. S.
Johnson, wai a skillful surgeon an'' physician in
Central New York, where he died, leaving the above
C. P. Johnson to my care. At thirteen years of age
he had a chronic diarrhea and scrofula, for wh'ch I
gave him your Sarsapaiilla. IT CURED HIM. I
have for ten years recommended it to many in New
York, Ohio, and Iowa, for scrofula, fever sores, and
general debility. Perfect success has attended it
The etires effected in some cases of scrofula and fever
sores were almost miraculous. I am very anxious for
my son to again have recourse to your Sarsaparilla.
He is fearful of getting a spurious article, hence his
writing to you for it. His wounds were terrible, but
I believe he will recover. Respectfully.

Consumption Can Be Cured.
THE TRUE REMEDY AT LAST DISCOVERED
Upham's Fresh Meat Care.
Prepared according to the formula of Prof. Trous
seau of Paris, WILL CUR * THE COUGH. ARBEST
HjEWORRHAGK. AND HEAL THE LUNGS.
The new plan of treating pulmonary diseas-« with
Fresh Meat is creating a profound seisation in Eu-
rope. Its beneficial results have been heralded
through the Press in both hemispheres. The fresh
Meat treatment -was first tried in KuNsia by Dr.
Weisse. The results were no less gratifying than
surprising. Consumptive cases in his hands, which
had previously baffled the most skilled ot the profes-
sion, yielded rapidly, as by charm, under the new
treatment. But it is to Prof. Trousseau of Paris that
the world is chiefly indebted for making known to
the afflicted the great feature of the Fresh Meat
Cure It is positively asserted that " in no less than
two thousand cases in which it has been tried it
proved successful in nearly all." The Fresh Meat
Cu e is now first ofiered to the American Public as a
Proprietary Remedy It is put up in the form of a
Syrup, each bottle containing the nutiitions proper-
ties of one and a half pounds of Raw Meat, which
prepared by this new form, acts not only as a nutri-
tive, but also as an alterative, changing the morbid
character of the ctmstitution, curing the Scrofulous
Diathesis and Tu aerculous Consumption consequent
npon it.
It is pleasant to the taste, and a single bottle of the
medicine will convince the most skeptical of its vir-
tues, as the great healing remedy of the nineteenth
centnry.
In order to ulace ' Upham's Fresh Meat Cure'
within the reach of all classes, the prices will be as
follows: CI a bottle, or six b ttles tor 85. A package
