POULTRY SHOW SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 7
MK&T TO LEAVE TRAIN SCHEDULE
AS IS, OFFICIALS STATE AT
MEETING HERE WEDNESDAY
ENTRANTS TO BE IN FRIDAY MORNING
WITH NO ENTRANCE FEE CHARGED;
WILL BE JUDGED SATURDAY
Through the efforts of the liuntrop,
Kigin, and Smithvile Chambers of
Comint n e, and with the help of Sen-
ator Albert Stone of Brvnham, tlu-
MK&T Railroad official.-, have with-
drawn thejr request to the state rail-
road commission to take off the north
and south day trains through the *■
towns, it was learned at a meeting
held at the court house in Bastrop
Wednesday morning.
I' W. Grace, vice-president and gen-
eral manager of the MK&T Railroad,
of Dallas, stated their decision, ex-
plaining that the action was consid-
ered only because the company was
losing money operating these train*.
He urged that people cooperate with
tb< rn now by u-ing the trains both for
traveling and shipping, sn that it w ll
not become absolutely necessary that
the*e trains be removed.

The Bastrop poultry Show, under
the direction of L. M. Gandy, Ba«-,
trop County Agent, w!ll be held here
on Friday and Saturday, March 8-0,
in the old Fairmont Creamery Build-1
ing next to Perkins Grocery.
All birds to be entered in the show
should Ik? brought in on Friday, March
X, according to Mr. Gandy, and they |
will be judged on Saturday morning.
Th<-re will be no entrance fee nor
charge for coops, and every poultry '
raiser is urged to bring in at least
one entry. Ribbons and additional
piizes will be presented the winners.
Judging will be based on produc-
tion only, and any breed, including
hybrids, will be allowed. All entries
will be judged as singles or indivi-
duals, and all entries will be classed
as pullets and cocktels, under twelve
months of age, and hens or cocks,
over twelve months of age.
Arrangements are being made for
poultry specialists to be present to
discuss personal poultry problems
with poultrymen, free of charge.

Paul's, Houston, and formerly of

Tlie Lenten services have been
proving inspirational and popular,
and thanks to my illness we have en-
joyed hearing one or two priests not
originally on our schedule. We are
grateful to them and hope they will
visit us often.
The Rev. Frank Hayes, St. Paul's
Houston, will be our guest preacher
Wednesday, March 'Uh. Frank is an
old timer and we shall surely enjoy
having him with u.-. I shall not b-
here that evening a- 1 shall be tak-
ing his place at Houston. I leave
him in your care.
The Holy Week Program will be
printed next week. This year we shall

Friday as a holiday for the schools
and a -emi holiday foi business; with
this in mind everyone should be able
to give some observance of our laird's
Crucifixion by attending the Three
Hour-' Service and the Service of
Tenebrae. Children, particularly,

courage and backbone than any oth-
er office in the county to fill, and
Mr. Cartwright ha,* handled it con-
sistently for the betterment of all
concerned, building for himself a re
putation for conscientious actions and
genuine ability to fill his position.
He has worked faithfully and hard
for the enforcement of law and or
der in the county, maintaining a high
standard in that department. With
this experience behind him, he will
be even better fitted to handle the
affairs of this office in the future
