TO GIVE LECTURE
ON CHRISTIAN
SCIENCE
A lecture on Christian Science,
entitled. "Christian Science: The
Science of Reality," was delivered
in the First Methodist Church on
March 14, 1947, under the auspices
of First Church of Christ, Scient-
ist, Austin, Texas. Dr. Hendrik
J. de Lange, C.S.B., of New York
City, was the lecturer. Dr. de
Lanfre is a member of the Board
of Lectureship of The Mother
Church, The First Church of
Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass-
achusetts.
The lecturer spoke in part as
follows:
Reality is that which actually
exists. Like truth in its highest
sense reality is unchir-cable, ex-
isting forever. We can never rid
ourselves of reality. We can be
freed from that which is unreal,
untrue. In order to do this, we
have to understand what reality
is.
Hence reality is a i ject well
worth our consideration. Then? is
a growing recognition ot ".he limit*
at ions and inaccurac es of the
human mind. Is the: an alter-
native means of cog izance? If
not, humanity would be doomed
to remain within the limitations
and errors inherent in the human
mind, and the future would bo
bound to repeat past failures.

"LITTLE WOMAN"
TAKES HER PLACE
IN RODEO ACTS
The rode*-., America's second
most popular he-man sport, has
taken on a treatment of glamour
in the last few years. The Roundup
Rodeo, to be held in Austin March
28, £9, and 30, will show how the
"little woman" has stepped up
to take her place alongside the
cowboys as a big attraction.
In addition to the professional
cowboys' event* that include sad-
dle bronc riding, bulldogging. bull
riding, calf roping, and wild horse
races, the cowgirls will compete
in their own contest: the ladies'
barrel race.
The stellar specialty act, too,
is made up of six crack horse-
women and their partners in a
square dance on horseback. They
are members of the popular Sher-
iff;; PMm from Georgetown. Al-
though a far cry from the early
vigilantes who kept law and order
in Williamson County, they still
prefer to be known as the Sheriff's
Posse.
Dr. J. Frank Clark, who is the
director of the hor^o quadrille, .
helped found the original k'roup in
Abilene, and when he moved to I
Georgetown, he sold the Posse on '
the idea, too. Now the town's
pet entertainment is the square
dance team. The six horsewomen
picked to be in the quadrille mu*:
qualify as good lookers, a: well
as good riders.
Dr. Clark's daughter, Pat, wh™
has been her father's partner in j
the act for the last six year«, is
the perfect example of how a j
cowgirl with beauty and ability •
can get ahead in the rodeo busi- !
ness. She has appeared in the
Madison Square Garden rodeo, the
Boston Square show, and ha« had i
her picture in several national I
magazines. New York papers cal-
led her "Queen of the Rodeo." 1
Other beauties will be present- 1
ed in the grand entry that will !
begin all three shows, which will
comprise the Roundup Rodeo, and i
wi'. oe held at the recently en
larged rodeo grounds on River j
side Drive in Austin.
There definitely is anrrther means
of cognizance which, moreover, i
infinitely more exact than the
human mind It is the realm, or
consciousness, of Christ, constitut-
ing the real nature of existarire,
reality itself This realm was di
vinely real to Jesus of Nazareth.
Mary Baker Eddy, a Christian
woman of Puritan background, in
1866 discoveded that Christ Jesus'
teachings, were fully applicable at
the present time, and at all times,
provided one comprehended the
standpoint from which he thought
and acted. The Master understood
(God as Truth and reality.
In recognizing God as Truth
end Truth as infinite and eternal,
Mrs. Eddy discerned that Truth
operates as the law of annulment
to whatever is untrue, unreal, al-
though to human sense seeming
to be real. Thus the scientific
nature of Christianity was seen.
Accordingly. Mrs. Eddy called her
discovery Christ Science or Christ
ian Science, and sh«* became the
first Christian Scientist practic-
ing Christ Jesus' S ience of heal-
ing.

APRIL 24TH TO
BE SAN JACINTO
FIESTA DAY
SAN ANTONIO. Tex.—Colorful
and gay national holidays will be
depicted in the lavish spectacle
marking the coronation of the
queen of the Fiesta de San Jacinto
in San Antonio on April 24, one of
the most spectacular events in the
week-long fiesta program.
"The Court of Holidays" will
be the theme of this year's coro-
nation. And in-town court of 12
duchesses, made up of local debu-
tantes, will symbolize the most
colorful of American holidays ami
an out-of-town court, composed
of duchesses from other Texas
cities, will portray outstanding
foreign holidays.
The name of the fiesta queen
is a carefully guarded secret until
the night of the cornation.
The queen and her court por-
tray leading roles tn the famea
Battle of Flowers parade, which
takes place on Friday, the day
after coronation.
Also kept secret is the identity
of the fiesta king, selected by
the Texas Cavaliers. The king
makes his entry the opening night
of the fiesta, April 21, in a bril-
liant festival oil the San Antonio
river. Vast throngs will line the
river banks to hail "His Majesty"
and he will receive the key to the
city in a ceremony at the river-
bank theatre from Mayor Gus B.
Mauermann.
