It has been impossible for me
to call at each home in the
county, and to speak to each
of you personally, as much as
I would have enjoyed seeing you.
So I wish to taki this method
of telling you more nlniut my
qualifications for the office of
County 'Treasurer
I was born in McDade, Texas,
and attended school there and
in Bastrop.
My first business experience
was as a clerk in a large mer-
cantile store. During that time,
I studied bookkeeping and store
management with ICS ami la
ter became managct of this firm.
At our entrance in World War
I, I put aside everything and en
listed with the Kith Division. I

F V Soon after my discharge,
I became engaged in the lignite
coal business I was a pt'oduc
er of coal over a period of I t
years, which gave me a valuable
experience in management and
ac-ouiiting.
I am man leil and have three
children, the youngest now a

Texas. I am a member of the

I know the type of work in
the County Treasurer's office,
and fee! that I am entirely ca
pahle of handling it efficiently.
The duties are very familiar to
me, since my father served the
people of Bastrop County as
treasurer from 1904 to 1922 in
elusive, and my sister, Miss Bes-
sie Chalmers (now Mrs. W. H.
Warren) sueeeded him for ap
proximately ti years.
I now have u small cleaning
and pressing business, which is
inadequate for the support of
my family. Therefore, it is nee
essary for me to seek other em
ployment.
I assure you that your vote
and influence will be appreciated

during the week of June 20-26,
with their leaders, Ellis Christie,

Jerry lxtng, patrol leader,
passed marksmanship first class
test. Jerry returned to camp
after the local troop came home,
where he stayed for a period of
time for further studies of
scouting in the various phases.
The sun shone hot from a
cloudless sky, the warning wail
of a siren mingled with a sound
of music and the clop, clop, clop
of horses hooves—the parade
came in sight, and it was Home-
coming in Bastrop for the
seventh consecutive year!
Main street, colorful with its
banners waving and flags fly-
ing, was lined with masses of
people, and the spirit of festivi
ty prevailed.
Out of town attractions in the
parade were members of the
Travis County Sheriff's Posse,
ibe Capital City Posse, and the
Shrine Band of Ben Hur Teniple,
a'! of Austin. T'eere were many
other beautiful floats from the
surrounding towns as well as
local entries.
(iala dressed cowboys and
cowgirls by the score, tradition-
ally western, added beauty and
color to the lo^.g parade, and
set into motion the big r >deo at
the American Legion Arena for
a three nights ;) rformuaee.
On the opening night, t'.e
Shrine Band of 1'en Hur Tem-
ple of Austin opened the rj'eo
by playing the National Antnenv.
to which a crowd of approxi-
mately 3,000 people stood at at-
tention. The band also played
numbers throughout the evening
and an added feature .vas a
drill put or. by the Capital City
Posse.
The grand entry was >n'? of
the largest ever to take place
in the rodeo here, anil th-1 'ocal
, cowboys and cowgirls showed
their talents at horsemanship a-
Ict.g with the big time perfor-
mers.
The dances each night follow-
ing the rodeo were attended by
huge crowds, to the extent of
j overflow capacity.
The Ex Students Ass j"iiHi<,n
meeting and barbecue supper in
the Bastrop State Park was at-
tended by approximately iOQ
j people, and the Open House and
' Silver Tea held at the Museum
was an outstanding affair.
The motor boat races attract-
ed large crowds at the starting
point at Montopolis bridge in
Austin and were followed to the
boat docks iri Bastrop, where ap-
proximately 2000 people came
and went at intervals to watch
the boats come in.
With Bastrop's Seventh An-
nual Homecoming over, which
was a big success and a plea-
sure and joy for all, plans are
again in the making for an-
other Homecoming next year.
